indie music videos
« on: 23 Nov 2008, 09:48 »

I suppose this could go in this forum?

Anyway, I'm in a new-wave/indie rock band from Wichita called polarOPPOSITEbear.  Our drummer recently directed/shot a video for us and completed it last night.  There's hella chocolate syrup involved. If you'd like to check it out, it's on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj62qhKuvbs .  Our singer was in a band you may have heard of called Rickyfitts.

Do any of you/your friend's bands do stuff like this?

You guys sound like you're trying way too hard to rip off The Bravery (who are already trying to rip off The Killers, who are already trying to rip off New Order yada yada)

Also the negative effect is really grating after a bit and the concept isn't very creative (i.e. we've seen it done a million times before).

I think it's a pretty good video for what was probably a shoe-string budget.  Can't say I'm a fan of the music.  I think about halfway through you should have started showing other stuff than just the band members in negative, because it starts to lose visual excitement.  Also, the lead singer has a really weird way of dancing.

Thanks for the constructive criticism.

He likes David Byrne, btw.

The band is fine. I don't hear the comparisons Eugene made. Video has a great low budget concept, and the editing was pretty good. The editing could be a little more in sync with the actual song, but the guys who make the vast majority of music videos nowadays always seem to forget to do this anyway.

You guys deserve a pat on the back!

Actually, they were only really trying to rip 'em off on Hot Fuss, all the later stuff has mostly been trying to rip of the Boss.

This video is not available in your country. Does the whole WORLD hate Jamaica!?

This reminds me of another band (not The Bravery)... Hmm... It's not Birdmonster... HA!!! It's Von Iva!!

Dude, you sound like Von Iva... Which is an all-girl band. It sounds like Don Sartain and Von Iva had babies... Which isn't bad, but. Eh. You could go places, kid.

It's just Believe by The Bravery in case you were really curious. Also my YouTube keeps defaulting to the UK despite the fact that I live in New York (which may be the reason it's not letting you watch).

I am actually quite enjoying this song.

Sounds good.

The video, like has been said, gets a little bit monotone, but for the rest, this is pretty ace.

I'm reminded of QotSA actually.

I should clarify: it's not bad music, it's just not the sort of thing I normally enjoy.

Yeah, agreed, it's very MTB.

I like the song, but I kind of wish that the guitar were louder.  It sounds kind of frail with such a prominent bass track.

I also like the concept of the video, too, but I couldn't help but draw parallels.

I do agree that this could potentially have some dire ramifications in regards to purple drank.

Whoah, that Silversun video is really similar.  We do dig all those bands, though (not so much the Bravery), so I'm stoked that you drew those comparisons.  Actually, when we recorded our EP (that the song is on), we had a chick who played synth so that could explain the MTB comparisons.  She moved to Beijing and we got the second guitar player so, hopefully, future guitars will be louder.  Also, we recorded the EP ourselves, using Garage Band.

Thanks for all the kind words!

There's something so great about that fact.  Definitely one for the scrapbook.

Right. It sounds very professionally done, so good job.
