Dear Blog Thread,
Is it so hard for people to take a joke over the internet? I know it all serious and everything, but can't there be some exception to this?
Actually, yes. It is. There is no tone of voice, there is no facial expressions, all we can go in is previous statements and what you write. All of the subtle nuances of human speech is lost when you put it into text. Books generally let the reader know how something is being said, but when it is just text, unless it is ridiculously outrageous, it is generally taken in a neutral tone. Italics, bold and underline help to change the tone as you read it, and convey that there is emphasis, or maybe a second meaning to a word.
For example.
I hit my girlfriend last night.
or
I
hit my girlfriend last night.
In the first example, I may actually be domestically abusing my girlfriend. But in the second example, I am using italics to convey that I did not actually hit her, but rather, I did something else, something that may be considered hitting to a child who is too young to understand.
Keep in mind also what Inlander said, we do not really know who you are, so we are unsure how you really act. There are people in the world who think it is okay to lie and neglect their significant others because they are too busy getting drunk. We call them bad people.
