I would like to stress that it's not impossible to understand, just kind of tiring. For example, my geology professor was from India and thanks to the nature of the subject matter I was often listening to him name minerals and elements I had only read about before. I wasn't completely lost or anything, but there'd be moments where I'd be a half step behind while taking my notes during lectures and such. It's a small thing, but from a production perspective it's an easily avoidable thing.

Jens and Kris, I don't know how you guys do it. If my sister and I ever went on the same forums we'd flame each other into getting permab& within the first 3 hours. You guys have my RESPEK.

Dear blag,

Tomorrow I get to bring my amp along to the disco where we are doing our live shows! We have rehearsal tomorrow over there, and I am not dicking around when I say that this Wednesday will see the whole country of Albania getting rocked into oblivion. Now, if only I can convince them to let me play whatever I want, I will play "Hoppipolla" by Snow Patrol (that or "Chocolate" or "Run" by Snow Patrol) and you will be able to see the flock of Ladiez on Google Maps in a month and a half when they update.

Love,
Me!

EDIT: Fuck the songs I mentioned above. I know what I'm fucking doing. "Hallelujah" a la Jeff Buckley. Fuck you, Arti, I will DESTROY YOU on Wednesday.

there's a real neat coffee shop on campus i like a whole lot and they sometimes let people play live music during the day, only lately it is 70% of the time some dude in a plaid shirt playing really bad covers by a) dave matthews or b) snow patrol and i am kind of mad at these jerks for now making me want to avoid an otherwise cool place.

You're a cheap date.

I don't understand what this has to do with not liking Dave Matthews.

I asked him what his favorite bands were and he said Lo Fidelity All Stars and Dave Matthews.

Dude also kept trying to get me to sleep with him.

I made the right decision.

ETA:
I didn't know what it meant to be a cheap date, so I asked my friend. I gave him the background story, saying that I had told someone that I rejected a dude for liking Dave Matthews, and they called me a cheap date. And then said "what does that mean?" His response? "They're a dick."

Avec, you seriously need to work on your whole being rude for no reason. I mean, its not endearing to anyone. If you want to be an ass, at least do it in an entertaining, or thoughtful way. Or with a real reason. I mean, we've had some asses on this board before(Kieffer/Animal Ghosts comes to mind), but they at least were enjoyable enough and had reason enough to be dicks that we came to love them. So, if you want to be a dick, at least be entertaining.

Also, I still didn't know what it meant, so I googled it, and that's not really true. Plus given the evidence(rejecting a dude for bad taste in music), wouldn't that make me the opposite of a cheap date?

Dear blog roll,

My work trousers are stinking out my room. I've not been able to wash them in too long and after working 5 days in a row - soon to be hitting the sixth - they're horrific. Walking through beer for a living isn't fun, guys.
I also cannot sleep. This could be due to smelly beer trousers, so i'm putting them in a different room. Dear god, I cannot wait until Wednesday. Bring on my first day off in ages, and please bring back the students to steal my hours again. If I ever have to work another Easter down here, I swear i'll cold stab a bitch.

Oh yeah! I got followed on my way to work. I'd just put my phone in my pocket when two guys crossed the road to walk behind me, and I mean right behind me. I'm pretty sure I could feel them breathing. So I started to walk faster, and they started making jokes about various things. The sad part is, is that they were foreign, and i'm not sure if me getting scared out of my mind was some horrible underlying racist streak in me, or if they were just downright creepy. I know they were talking about me, because they were counting my... well, it's hard to explain. As I sped up they started counting "1, 2. 1, 2..." in time to my foot steps... and that just made me more nervous, because they thought it was funny that I was scared. Where I live doesn't have the best reputation for safety, so that might have added to it I guess?
In the end, I pretty much ran to the train station and waited until they'd walked past. I'm a pretty terrible person.

tl;dr I'm a paranoid, accidental crazy racist, whose work trousers smell pretty bad.

College does that to you as well, Jace. It's called "being between 18 and 25 years old".

Blog thread, I went to a thrift store yesterday and bought this funky-as-fuck Ralph Lauren jacket. It's all herringbone and whatever. I then stopped by my grandparents to visit my uncle, who was in town for Easter. Shocked, he noted that he has the same jacket sitting in his closet, and paid something like $525 for it.

I paid a dollar and fifty cents, who knew?

And to make it clear, I wasn't offended. My friend was, but I wasn't. Like I said, I didn't even know what it meant. For awhile I was like, "yeah, I do prefer going to the Buttery over Bella Milano."(the buttery being this amazing cheap ass diner, and Bella Milano being this expensive Italian place), but I wasn't sure what that had to do with Dave Matthews. Then after actually looking it up, I pretty much thought "ha! Whatevs man."

Jace, if you're feeling depressed from your night job, one possibility is that you might not being getting enough sun. The sun does make most people happier. During any sunlight hours you do manage to be up, you should probably make an effort to spend as much time outside as you can.

And to make it clear, I wasn't offended. My friend was, but I wasn't. Like I said, I didn't even know what it meant. Being a cheap date isn't a bad thing, really. If you're just as happy going to the cheep place, I take it to mean that you're more interested in the person you're with then in what they can afford to buy you.

I was debating where to post this.  Maybe I should post these in the "books" forum or something.

But it was something that happened to me today.  So blog it.

This is what one of the other library employees posted in the YA reading room.

I think it was only about a day before someone complained.

Chickies?  REALLY?  Chickies?

War Stories...wtf.  Are there really that many stories of modern warfare aimed at the YA audience?

Glad to know that literary sexism is alive and well...shit.

That is completely wrong in my experience. College is often rough for people precisely because they end up pulling all nighters and budgeting their time terribly. 18-25 was easily the best stretch of my life and perhaps the first time I was ever genuinely happy... except for the stretch where I worked nights. That was a bad month and a half.

According to the internet, the slang term "cheap date" means a person who will get drunk and sleep with you or sleep with you on the first date.

Please keep in mind that the internet can be really dumb sometimes. For the sake of clarity, I will continue to call such dates "easy" as opposed to cheap.

Actually, never mind, I can't see myself using either term that way. Too crass.

Maybe change what hours you're sleeping?  I'm not sure if you sleep immediately before work or after, but maybe switch it up so you can still see some people during the day?

This is what I would love to do, I am doing it right now, and it is totally fucking up my sleep schedule, because I am supposed to get home, go to sleep and wake up mid afternoon then go to Kung Fu. But I end up sleeping all day because I don't want to go to work and each time I wake up I remember that eventually I have to go to work so I just keep going back to sleep. I do enjoy going outside, but I don't generally have anything to do outside, so I end up inside. Although I do occasionally pull away the blanket that covers my window.

I live a sad life sometimes, I cannot wait to stop working overnights.

Glad to know that literary sexism is alive and well...shit.

Sexism seems to be what the literary industry is built on. I am ok with using the word 'literary' there because it's followed immediately with the word 'industry' rather than 'culture' or 'scene' or whatever.

I am pretty sure the internet/urban dictionary are pretty great place to look for slang terms. Who uses the internet and places like urban dictionary a lot? Teenagers. And who uses slang a lot? Teenagers.

Jace, if you're feeling depressed from your night job, one possibility is that you might not being getting enough sun. The sun does make most people happier. During any sunlight hours you do manage to be up, you should probably make an effort to spend as much time outside as you can.

This is not bad advice! I'm not working nightshift anymore but when I did, I tried to get outside in the sun at least once a day because otherwise I get sad and start saying "um" a lot whenever I had to talk to people.

Circadian rhythms are not to be toyed with. I was never a morning person in my teens but some of the best times of my life are when I worked at a newspaper in production a few years ago and had to be up by 4 am. The first hour or so was a bit rough, but by the time my first break rolled around the sun would be up and before long it was noon and I was walking home in the sunshine. Did whatever I wanted from 1 to 11 pm and I never felt better despite the fact that 6 hours of sleep was actually a reduction for me.

Patrick you stop doing dirty things with that ampersand right now.

Also Snow Patrol covered Hoppipola what?

P.S. I just realized who snow patrol are. Man fuck those guys.

Freudian slip. I meant Sigur Ros but I was thinking about Snow Patrol at the time. Either way, I decided on Buckley, so we can analyze my brain another time.

As it turns out I'm not singing this week anyway, so I brought basically 50kg of shit for no good fucking reason.

I find it hard to picture someone coming from Norway to go to Alton Towers...

Bloggg:
I needed to send an 11kg package to Portugal (eBay sale).  I had looked up prices on the Internet and found a site that listed a slow DHL product for £20+VAT.  So I took the package in to the DHL depot, 'cos they are really close - "£197+VAT" they said, "but if you book a pickup online, £97+VAT, or if you take it to this shop in town where we pick it up from them, £47+VAT, but your package is too long for that, sorry".  So I took the package home again, repeated the Internet search, found the £20+VAT deal, and booked it for them to pick up from my office tomorrow.

Moral - trying to save businesses trouble can cost a lot of money!

More Norwegians should go to Alton Towers, that was a pretty good family trip.
