First off I'd like to thank OWW (your name is Joe, right?) for inspiring me to be completely open and honest about my feelings. I met a girl last night and I straight up told her that i liked her and wanted to see her again. Being completely drunk (see below) and not quite coherent didn't help though. She was very confused and didn't know what to say. Then my cousin (who was with her) told me she had a boyfriend. Of some sort. I'm still very glad that I was so open and honest.

Yesterday some scottish band played at the pub where I work. They were pretty good and after the show they got drunk with us. I don't think I've ever been so drunk in my life. Well except last Wednesday. I am not really hungover yet, because I'm still kind of buzzed.

PS: fucking nazis!

Watch on-stage interview with Jason,

Oh jealousy, how you burn! Jason is a pretty much awesome guy, and I really want to see him once. I hope he comes to Raptus, our local comics festival. I heard that he was shy and didn't attend that kind of stuff, so this makes him even more awesome.

I am exhausted. Since about 1 PM friday until a couple of ours ago, I've been to a viking/medieval market thing. I've been fencing, battling and swashbucklin' a lot these days, and today we had a big show for the people who had brought their kids to view the spectacle. I've had a bunch of fun; this is the one sport I'm any good at, and meeting people from other places and swing some swords feels terrific. The combination of fun, none-serious playing and a feeling of being skilled is really cool. Other fun stuff that happened included
- drunk people singing around the campfire (one got drunk enough to fall over, even though he was already sitting down, he just toppled right backwards)
- me and a rather pretty girl deciding to try to get the other part as soaked as possible (I won by a margin. This was fun, but not as fun as I had hoped wearing would be)
-firing a mini-trebuchet
-talking to some of the newest people in the club (usually dubbed noobs by us), and figuring out that they too like metal, computer games and RPGs. Rad people all the way.

I had a great weekend, my neck is burnt into a red hell by the sun, and I'm so glad I've got a day of from school tomorrow.

So, I am a little stoned, and made itunes use genius to make me a playlist and it's awesome. I also found out that my flatmate is making me dinner and its going to be steak. It's warm enough for my window to be open, and I'm going out later for a relax drink.

Life's pretty good.

I have to start learning a completely new and obscure functional programming language that is essentially a mixture of php and javascript and mysql for my honours project though. Gonna be fun.

What language? It sounds...weird. We had to learn Oz for a class on programming languages (introduction to functional and logical languages, syntax, syntax analysis, translators, interpreters, semantics, comparison of language properties, data typing, different programming paradigms etc) my last semester, and djeez, it was annoying. The worst part about languages like that is that finding extensive documentation or any help at all online is difficult, so it makes working with it so much more of a hassle than it could be, and keeping up motivation when you're having problems and there is nowhere to turn to for help isn't exactly the easiest.

(Edited because I need to stop using "bitch" to describe horrible things)

Well, the good thing is that the professor who I'll be working with wrote the language so he pretty much knows everything about it. It's Links. http://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/links/. The guys is a functional programming / lambda calculus fanatic.

Yo Blogg,

I have to tell my housemates that I'm thinking of moving out. For simplicity's sake I think I'll decline to tell my one housemate that a major contributing factor is the fact that she leaves her shit lying all over the place. Exhibit A: a pile of used tissues on the dining room table.

I've been in this house for four years (with a succession of different housemates). I'm going to be thirty in a few months. I want to live in a house that doesn't have any cracks in the walls or flaking plaster or tiles falling off the bathroom wall.

I would love to live in the countryside in northern England or Scotland for a year (having lived in a semi-rural part of Surrey for 7 months in 2003). However my job doesn't pay enough for me to live in the U.K. and I'd have to either leave my cat behind, or take her with me and subject her to the flight there and back and then Australia's incredibly tough quarantine regulations upon my return home.

On balance I think I'll settle for somewhere closer to home for the time being.

Hi bloggity blog blog thread,

Today, I skipped out on my early morning (9AM) lecture because I always get there late and the lecturer uploads the notes anyway. So I slept in, had breakfast etc. I was helping the boy finalise his essay/write-up thing and our power went out. Not a "oh something has tripped the power" thing, a complete power out. No assignment finished or printed, due today. So now I've missed my second lecture of the day and so far it all seems rather pointless to have gotten out of bed in the first place.

I want to live in a house that doesn't have any cracks in the walls or flaking plaster or tiles falling off the bathroom wall.

Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I wasn't constantly surrounded by bong smoke, maxibon wrappers, and dozens of electronic devices that have been gutted to make even weirder electronic devices.

Blog Thread!

I am not making as much money as I like to so I am thinking of getting a second job! I basically have two options:

1) go to work at another pub owned by the same mob I already work for,  for 1-2 days a week,

2) ask to be put exclusively on weekend night-shifts and find a tedious 9-5 schtick, preferably one behind a desk where I can wear nice things to work.

Option 1 has the advantage that there'd be no tax increase on my second income, since I'd be working for the same company. Also I genuinely enjoy bartending! However I am starting to think I spend way too much time in pubs because when I go out for a quiet relaxing drink I am always watching security, looking at camera vantage points, and basically thinking to myself "this place is run like a fucking abandoned caryard!" so it would be nice to get a job I don't even enjoy or give a fuck about to earn some cash, because I have always wanted to quit a job really spectacularly.

The only problem with option 2 is I have no idea what I am qualified to do. I am looking for career advice!

My skills that are not directly related to booze are

- Money handling/counting
- defusing volatile situations
- a deep seated knowledge that if I don't do the shitty jobs around a place, they'll probably never get done
- I am so much of a fucking people person you wouldn't believe
- stocktaking/inventory/taking and placing orders for deliveries
- general supervisory tasks, whip cracking
- fucking handy with power tools and general building shit
- as a massive nerd, computer skills go without saying but to be more specific I know my way around a spreadsheet, database, or any of the other shit you need to run a small business, can't do IT support for shit though
-probably some other shit

Looking at this I could probably do pretty well for myself working for a large department store, but it would have to be a nice place because I already have to deal with idiot redneck customers in my current job (A rum and coke is called a rum and coke asshole, not a rum)

So if anyone has any suggestions for jobs I might be good at, holler at me. The problem is that if you look at my previous work experience on my resume it reads "Labourer 2002-2003. Factory Hand 2003-2006. Bartender 2006-present" and that doesn't really take into account that I was the de facto floor manager of the factory for six months after the old one quit, and that a dude working days in a pub  accumulates useful employment skills at an alarming rate.

After two days of very successful self-motivation in the revision department, I'm finding it hard to get down to work today. It's mostly because the minute I got home, both my mum and her partner started laying into me about not eating too many tomatoes (apparently I am not allowed four cherry tomatoes for my lunch; this is a rule of which I had hitherto been unaware) and it pissed me off sufficiently that I just lay around reading for a while and mumbling "stupid pathetic petty CHILDREN". I realise now that I was also being stupid, pathetic, petty and childish but somehow I let this consume three hours of my afternoon and really, the moment for hard work is gone. Perhaps I will go do some studying for my English exam because that's not quite so crucial but can be productive and fun if I'm in the mood.

It's odd, I wish I'd been taught how to revise when I was at school or at least tried to figure it out on my own. I did work for my GCSEs after a fashion but most of that period was full of DRAMARAMA thanks to family stuff and moving out, and I don't actually remember what my revision techniques were. Turns out I work best between about 2 and 5pm, and during that time I can work almost constantly, taking a ten minute break each hour and getting loads and loads done. And it sticks too; I was using quiet moments at work this morning to review what I'd done yesterday and I can remember a bunch of names and dates that I had learnt whilst sunbathing in the garden. I'm lucky because I can remember concepts really well, it's just the gritty stuff of who did what and when that slips out of my head.

Anyway time to go and potter a little and then make lavish spider diagrams about thematic links between King Lear and A Thousand Acres.

Dear Blog Thread,

I am sick with the flu. It is not a pleasant experience, especially since I have not been sick in years. So today instead of going to school and preparing to continue to study about Waves in Physics I am spending my day doing the following things:

Playing Saints Row 2 on hard (it is boring since I've already beaten it)
Watching seasons of How I Met Your Mother
Making Genius Playlists in iTunes (it is more entertaining than it seems)
Texting my girlfriend and preparing plans for Friday with her

It really sucks to get sick now, but a few seconds ago I am feeling a bit better now that my German teacher has canceled our final German exam in lieu of a project.

Dear blog thread,

Since the vocal booth has been abandoned due to the fact that the condenser mic shit out completely about 4 weeks ago, I have been using it as a dedicated practice space for rocking out. It's pretty well soundproofed so nobody can hear me, and I can hide from the camera in a reasonably large space, and there's a window that I can see my reflection in. It's pretty much the best thing ever. I got really really sweaty and now there is a metric fuckload of grime on both my guitar's body and on the fretboard. I WANT MOOOOOAR

Also today a ridiculously sexy female asked me for my autograph and I'd have asked for her number if I were single. It's weird, how come I've stopped being a piece of shit even when my current lady said that I am allowed to be a piece of shit as long as there is full disclosure? I DON'T GET THIS.

Love,
Me!

Dear blog thread,

I really wish my former coworker would stop texting me asking about work and how the new guy is and shit like that. I mean, she was fired. She knew it was coming and she knows how everyone is at work - if you say something, eventually everyone in this store and probably the two other stores are going to know what you said. So when you say things about people behind their back when you're getting fired, everyone will know! Including the new guy! So stop texting me, because the company is better off without you and I never liked you in the first place! Move on!

Not sincerely at all,
This Girl

Dear Phone company,

Please stop calling me and trying to get me to change my plan or get my home phone onto your company. I am happy with my plan. If I wanted to change it I would go to my local optus shop and ask about it. Also, if I say I will not use a data plan, please do not just try and put me on one anyway "just in case". I don't look at the internet on my phone, so don't assume that now I can I will.

You are calling me basically every day and I am ignoring your calls but it is getting to be rather annoying. Stop it.

Congrats on the new job, sounds fun!  :-D

Dear Bloggie,

Yesterday I got together with the musician I'm showcasing on my TV show and shot the interview portion that we couldn't do in the studio. It came out very nice, and now I'm elbow deep in editing it together with the music so I can turn it in later this week.

After the interview session, I tagged along to catch her gig that night. One small problem, there was a mixup and they had double booked the entertainment, so she didn't get to play. They did pay for dinner for the both of us (I helped carry in her gear, so they assumed I was with her, and we let them go ahead and do that), so that was cool, but being a starving musician, she needed the money. Fortunately, they're going to re-book her in June at least.

While eating, her CD producer ran into us, and after lamenting the gig mixup, I showed him some of the studio footage (I had it on my laptop with me) and he was quite impressed. I had kinda met him before, but I think he was always a bit dubious about my motivations. After seeing the clips and hearing my approach to the show, though, he was very supportive and happy that I'm helping her out with this.

So feeling good about how all of this will turn out.  :-)

Oh and don't forget to waste all your time on Facebook or YouTube. You'll have to get good at quick-draw window minimisation for when you see your boss coming. Have a window of actual work or work-related stuff permanently maximised underneath the fun stuff, so you can quickly switch to that when someone comes. Practice your sighing: nothing says "I'm busy" like a good stare-at-the-computer-and-sigh.

See, office jobs are easy!

Lunchy that is awesome! My only office job consisted of answering phones a lot and getting my tits checked out by the mail and package men, but it is so fun to wear nice office clothes and feel all swanky!

Has anyone here been to an Anthropologie store? My parents got me a shirt from there that was super pretty, but didn't look good on me at all (ughh puffy shoulders) so I took it back to exchange and oh my god that shit is jaw-droppingly expensive. I wanted to murder every person there for buying anything on the regular. I honest to god spent 70 dollars on what is essentially a jersey tank top and I kind of want to donate a lot of money to charity and then kill myself to make up for it.

You know how you see arguments in the movies or on TV and one person lunges for the other person's throat?

Yeah, I did that tonight. It is kinda scary now that I think back on it, but I swear, I was either going to strangle him or rip his face off. My brother, that is. I almost strangled him a little too before he threw me against the lounge and bellowed at me and I stormed outside.

I just tried that and I suck at it.

Blog thread,

My weekend was kickass.  I went to the cape with Jon and his friends and we drank and did a whole lotta nothing by the fire.  I find I'm not great at playing frisbee, but bocce was loads of fun.  Apparently, I like Bahama Mamas.  I'd never had one until this weekend and I got hella drunk.  Good times.

Blaggy,

You know that scene in Spiderman where he had to stop a runaway train with his body and tore up a bunch of train tracks?

I kind of had to do that yesterday at my job.

Dear Blog thread,

The soundtrack to Dead Man is amazing. Oh and it's been Jim Jarmusch month on sbs since the start of May. I've taped each film they've shown so far, but have only had a chance to see Dead Man and Down By Law so far. Both of those films have really impressed me. I'll probably end up watching every one of his films my local video store has and then getting really burnt out on them before I try and watch anything else. I can't wait until the end of semester so I can finally make a dent in my list of films I really want to watch and not have it take up time I could spend on useful things.

Just got back from a karate exam which yesterday I was told I had to participate in. Lovely preparation that.

I succeeded, however.

I am now tired and happy.

My friends also think I'm dumb for thinking Jessica Alba isn't all that hot.(haha, my browser knew her last name should be capitalized)
