He's right about the whole Gabbletron/Meebo thing being a divisive element. I don't talk much (if at all, in some really sad cases) to most of those people because, well, they're content to talk among themselves elsewhere. Which is good for them, I'm not going to stop them, but it is SHIT for this forum. Wonder why all the interesting shit is gone? It's because it all got sucked into another place. The old regulars who would normally be posting cool shit on the boards have all pretty much left to post their cool shit on Meebo and ignore the boards.
Basically, if you guys are serious about making this place interesting again, kill Meebo and stop being anal about people getting chatty in threads. If people want to talk, let them talk. You don't kill a conversation in real life just because the topic changed, what makes the internet so special that you should do it here? If shit gets out of hand and becomes so exclusive that only two people are talking about it, THEN they take it somewhere more private.

Also, this. Everything Patrick said.
Tyler:
That is honestly a terrible argument.
Like, really bad.
"Stop talking elsewhere so all of your ideas and communication are forced here."
Ending meebo will just further the disconnect between a lot of people and these forums. The bigger issue is that most of the threads here have just been uninteresting. It is hard to put concerted effort into something you feel yourself slowly drifting from. For those that have been around for years, this can be particularly troublesome. Every other thread feels like the third rehash of something that has occurred previously. Everyone is going to approach this in their own way, whether it be further lack of participation, high levels of sarcastic posts, or attempts to heal the disconnect. You cannot expect more or less.
So lets all stop worrying about what others decide to do towards the future of the forums, and approach it in the way we each see fit ourselves.
RedLion:
Problem with that is people obviously have a very pre-determined definition of what these forums should be, and when they don't' fit into that definition, people throw a shit fit (I'm not completely excluded form that, of course. It's applicable pretty much across the board.)

Beautiful plummage, that Norweigan Blue Jeans.

Then stop siphoning the cool shit to go off elsewhere.
