No, actually, here it isn't. The backing on CDs will chemically break down and they will not work, period. They will skip as a byproduct of their manufacture, not as a byproduct of you dropping the needle while drunk. If you actually can properly maintain vinyl, it will still be in fine playable condition for your grandkids. An heirloom CD would just be a coaster. But taking enough proper care of a collection of vinyl def introduces many headaches of its own, to be sure.
