Talking to you.
« on: 27 Feb 2009, 13:08 »

When you are alone do you talk to yourself?

If yes, then what do you say?

If no, then fuck you.

Sometimes I really need to talk to the wisest, most intelligent person around.  Since that is usually me, yes, I do talk to myself.

heh.. that's good stuff.

Yeah alot of time i'll talk out scenarios in my head(except I actually say it outloud, or maybe I don't.. I dunno).

Like one recent one.

"I should see if anyone else talks to themselves"

"not a good idea, remember what happened in highschool"

"look those people were dicks and immature"

"so are you now"

"fuck you, ass"

"No, fuck you in the ass"

"okay!"

i talk/sing to myself when i get really excited. like, if i'm making a sandwich and i'm really hyped about it, i'll make up a little ditty about making a sandwich.

or if i'm having a hard time deciding between one thing or another i will often debate with myself outloud about the pros and cons of each until i can make an informed decision. the problem with this is that it usually happens in stores when i am grocery shopping so my conversations are brief, urgent, and usually whispered which probably makes me look more crazy, rather than less.

I don't really talk to myself as much as I imagine confrontations in my head.

I'll plan out how a conversation will happen before it happens.

I'm usually wrong.

I have a real hard time with math unless I talk it out, outloud.

like in gradeschool when they did the little flashcard contest for math.

I would start talking them out like, "Twelve times six is .."

then the other kid would answer and win.  Mostly because I didn't know the answer.  God, I hated the 11th grade.

I do that, but to an even bigger extent. I'll imagine all possible outcomes to a conversation, but i'm so scared of confrontation, the conversation never happens.
But it's nice to keep myself occupied.

Also, when i'm in supermarkets and I go down the wrong aisle, i'll shout "noooooo" at myself, and I once made up a song about milk out loud. This behaviour gets embarressing.

I repeat conversations I 've previously had but change them to things I wish I'd said instead. I also often imagine events happening to me and having conversations about them.

This leads me to say and think bad things. It is also a form of self-torture. You should have seen me the first time I did acid. Issssssss-uesssssss...

I talk to myself all the time. Sometimes I narrate my life out loud, or behave as if I'm showing a guest around, I do this mostly when I'm at my parents property - working to stave of the insanity that would otherwise ensue. At other times I'll plan out ridiculsly unlikely events, most of them morbid such as if I were to get hit by a car and I would rehearse the conversationts I would have with people. I'm sure I do other things, but despite the fact that I'm the only one involved in the conversation, even I'm not listening to me.

I get the sense that the whole "replaying conversations in your head and coming up with better answers" thing is pretty common--there's even that French phrase, "l'esprit de l'escalier" (wit of the staircase, thinking up comebacks only after you've left a conversation).  Regardless, I do that constantly, and I agree that it's debilitating to one's social confidence.

I don't really talk to myself much out loud, in general, but I do sing to myself when I'm happy.  And I laugh at socially inappropriate moments sometimes?

Yeah, I do the whole "replay a conversation" when I finally come up with the perfect witty line that escaped me at the time. Normally that is at least 5 minutes after the person has walked off, though.

I also talk to inanimate objects a lot. I tell my plants how well they're going; tell the kettle it is almost boiled; make encouraging noises to my car when it is having trouble starting or getting up a hill; Lecture my phone when it turns itself off; Yell at the TV (but I think most people do that one). Oh, I also will mumble along with a book if I am really into it, like, if there is a passage describing what someone said and an action, I will mumble the words and make expressions that fit and wave my arms a little or something. I don't think anyone has noticed that yet, apart from me.

I talk to myself all the time, either when I'm stressed, cleaning, or trying to work something out. Oddly enough, when I sew I talk to myself with a fake English accent. No idea where that comes from but it amuses me greatly when I am hemming a pair of pants and find myself saying "oh bloody hell I've run out of bobbin thread."

I will say things to myself, but I do not hold conversations with myself. And sometimes I will sing what I'm saying just because. I've also been told that I make sounds when I'm thinking and I don't even realize it.

I don't really talk to myself, but I have this strange habit of sometimes silently mouthing the last thing I said in a conversation after I've said it. I don't even really realize I'm doing it! It's kind of weird. Also, when I have a song stuck in my head, I can't help but mouth the lyrics or kind of whisper the song itself. So I imagine that I sometimes look like I am talking to myself.

Well, I sing along with my ipod, but that doesn't count (it's gotten me weird looks from joggers I didn't see coming).

If I can't figure something out, I talk the problem out and count things on my fingers. Usually the pros are on one hand and the cons on the other, but I also do it with geometry a lot.

And if I'm unhappy I make general "meh grar agh sigh" type noises, especially if I'm tired.

I mainly just curse at things.  Like if I am out of clean spoons and have to wash some, I'll say, "man, fucking spoons" as if it is the spoons' fault that they are dirty.  I also verbally abuse my cat, but in a sweet, baby talk voice so he can't tell.

When I'm writing scripts or comics or stories I say the dialogue out loud to make sure it sounds like a real conversation, I also read out loud when I'm memorising a script for an acting job. It gets me weird looks when I do it in coffee shops.

I have a great tendancy to have arguments in my head then saying the end of it out loud
it works out great when the rooms been silent for ages and you yell out "no you shut up, you dont even know what the fuck your talking about" good times

But usually I had a myriad of conversations with myself and others inside my head.

I talk to myself! Mostly in the supermarket though - "Ok, I got the milk, not i got to get...". When I wait at the checkout, I sometimes make calculations how much it's all going to cost. The other day, an old lady came up to me and told me she was glad she wasn'T the only one who did that.

Also, sometimes when I'm walking outside, I suddenly notice that I'm going in the wrong direction. Then I'll loudly say "Fuck!" or "No!", stop in my tracks and walk back into the direction i came from. I sometimes get funny looks for that.

It is just coming to my attention that I talk to inanimate objects constantly. Especially my car. I will always thank my car for getting me somewhere and keeping me out of any accidents. Or even when I'm late and freaking out, I try and calm down and console my car that it's not its fault, it did its best. Strangely, I'm one of the few people people I know who doesn't name all their stuff, I just call it by what it is.

Oh, and I just remembered, my friends find great amusement in my tendency to give inanimate objects commands. Whenever I put something down, I'll stop, point and it, and tell it to "stay". And then wait a second to make sure it does.
