Sledding Strip
« on: 14 May 2009, 11:10 »

Surely this has been discussed, but I looked all over and I didn't see it.

Does the top of this strip look messed up to anyone else?  Jeph mentioned even turning this into prints... which makes me wonder about this even more.

Is this just some "full bleed" for printing purposes, that will be cut off in the end?

What exactly do you mean "messed up"?

The gradients? That's probably a compression artifact that isn't in the original Photoshop document.

The buildings? They're a little dark, but that makes the foreground stand out more. (Though Dora's hair kind of disappears.)

I'm thinking the gradient is a compression issue. The buildings are a bit rounded on the corners, but I like that they are dark with the twilight behind and the light source being so far in front of them.

And it's not like they're completely black. You can see the windows and such.

Whatever the cause is, I agree that the background could use more work, especially if Jeph wants to sell the sledding print.

I just got the image of a midwife and a woman giving birth swinging towards each other on a trapeze - when they meet, the midwife pulls the baby out. The knife juggler is standing on the floor and cuts the umbilical cord with a a knifethrow.

Ohhh!  I get it!

Yeah, I'd been thinking the top was messed up, too.  Now I see that the jagged black is the roofs of the building and the light gray, which is quite similar to the background of the website, is the winter nighttime sky lit from below by streetlamps.

Total mindblow.
