Album Nomination Game -- ROUND FIVE
« on: 20 Apr 2009, 14:27 »

Final Four!

Link to full bracket here.

A few things of note:
-- Not much!
-- Closest race was Low vs. Clash with a 28 - 19 vote.
-- Easiest win was Miles Davis vs. Radiohead with a 34 - 12 vote.
-- Pretty neat that we have a 15 seed still in it!

PAY ATTENTION NOW
Since we're down to one album per colour, here's how to vote this round:
-- Choose one: Bob Dylan vs. the Beatles
-- Choose one: Miles Davis vs. Low

The Beatles
Miles Davis

Both pretty easy choices. Also, I don't care much who wins it all out of these four. I like them all, I think they're all pretty interesting, but I don't really love any of them.

This.  My heart really isn't in this anymore, I don't consider any of these to be anywhere near the best albums ever.  My choices were knocked out in the first/second rounds.

the Beatles - Abbey Road
i don't care

Beatles vs. Bob Dylan is kinda tough, but I like Abbey Road better.  The other matchup, I don't care for either album/who wins it.  This was kind of a lame final four  :|

That first choice was seriously hard. These aren't really my favourite albums ever, but I can see that a lot of people would consider them to be.  Low's one just isn't of the same calibre.

It's interesting to see how the semi-finals didn't really need a public or private vote, because while people are voting publicly there is no visible influence on the part of public opinion and discussion is kept to a minimum.  I think this is excellent.

Bringing It All Back Home

This was sort-of difficult, but since I chose it (with great difficulty) over Sgt Pepper, which I prefer to Abbey Road, this is what I have to do to be consistent.

Kind Of Blue

This, on the other hand, was easy.

-abstain-

Though honestly, Unknown Pleasures was the last album in the bracket that I really love.  Now that it's gone, I don't particularly care which one wins.

I'm voting for Low because I prefer that particular record match-up, not because I want Harry to go on a shooting spree.

Actually from hereon in I'm going to abstain from this competition not only because when push comes to shove I realise that anointing one single album the best ever is patently absurd, but also because we're getting dangerously close to further deifying Saint Kind of Blue, which is something I'm well and truly over seeing as how in my opinion (A) it's not the best album ever, (B) it's not even the best jazz album ever, and (C) it's not even the best Miles Davis album ever.

So, I mean, it's still a good album, but vote against it all you want.

(If anybody really wants me to explain exactly why I think it's not the best jazz album ever, etc., I'll be happy to provide tedious and extensive reasoning. Again.)
