What do you mean by "music scene" and what genre/kind of blog are you looking for? Downloads? Reviews? News? Any combination of the three?

Any genre.
And any combination of those three.

The three blogs posted are good from what I've read so far.
Thanks again.

Nobody cares what anybody knows about new music. People only care about what people know about old music. Ignore music blogs, read a few books instead. You could be the hippest cat in noughties music, but if you don't know your way around the 90s, it don't mean shit.

You also have to know your way around the 60s and 70s and have an indepth knowledge of the vietnam war. You should probably major in modern history and english literature if you want to get involved in a music scene.

If a band can't write ten thousand words on the cuban missile crisis, they aren't worth your time.

Bands are like blocks, the shape is more important than what colour they are and if you don't know your way around them, they'll mount up in a big chaotic mess and you'll get a game over without a single really satisfying tetris.

Before you start reading music blogs, you need to own a pair of genuine converse trainers reissued pre-1995. Your regular chucks just won't cut it. Get yourself a pair and then we'll start you listening to bands.

you absolutely MUST know the names of the band members before you can admit to enjoying the music of that band. always memorise their names before you hear the music.

You should probably also read "Punk Rock: An Oral History"

It's only a tenner on amazon, and totally worth it.

Once you have read all these books, you can try listening to the music if you think you need to.

Everything post-metal and sludge and doom and all that good metal stuff.

http://mightyriogrande.blogspot.com/

Granted, it's mine, but I like the music I put on it, so I'm recommending it. Anything from my library is game (anything from indie folk to drone doom and everything in between), but it's all good. (I haven't updated in nearly a month due to school obligations and being busy, but that's ending soon and the updating will resume.)

They like pop. Oh dear lord do they ever like pop. It's great though, snide comments abound and just occasionally they'll convince you that three minutes of sugar is the most sublime piece of art once you give yourself over to it. Ignore their opinions on anything heavy though, seems like the only contributor with any chops in such matters is Briony Edwards.

As far as Blogs go, I really can't reccomend SirensSound. I read it for a while and while I did find some truly wonderful music (Escape the Day, mainly) the guy who updates it moves WAY too fast and he never posts his own descriptions for an album (occasionally he types maybe a sentence or two but it's hardly insightful.) It's basically everything I hate about the mediafire thread on crack. I'm sure there are better post-rock blogs out there that have some more insight to them. One of the best parts of blogs is reading what the author has to say about the music being uploaded. Which is probably why I read mostly punk blogs now.

Anyway, this is what I read currently.

http://zen-face-punch.blogspot.com/ Is probably my favorite blog ever. Dude posts all types of punk here and oh dear god, can he write about it. I don't know why but I absolutely love the way he writes about music.  Even if you don't like punk, this is probably a good blog to read since he can write so well. This really stands out with his posts about shows. He makes really good posts about shows.

http://itsachugknocklife.blogspot.com/ Is another pretty good blog I read. I don't think the writing is as good as Zen's, but its not bad by any means. This guy has a little more focus on the emo end of punk, which is my favorite type so I guess it's fairly obvious why I read this blog. He also lives in Hagerstown, which is pretty far from be but close enough that sometimes he talks about stuff in my local scene, which is pretty rad too.

I would also post about SAL but I'm sure Michael will have more to say about that than I ever will.

The reverse-psychology in Sox's post-krieg meant something along the lines of this:

If you want to get into music, go out and listen to some music.  If you want to get into the "music scene" go out and listen to a lot of music.

More importantly, I think; Why would you "want to get into the music scene"?

I just want to know what this music scene is.  I feel like a schizophrenic in that nobody seems to notice how very EVERYTHING this term is.

It was gone for quite some time, it took Swygart a bit to get it sorted as a stand-alone entity.

http://laalaapopandrock.blogspot.com/ "A blog mostly about music and drugs."

This is my friends blog and he really knows what he talks about. At least when he is not totally out of his mind by alcohol, painkillers and Listerine. :D He is also a dj at a club named Nolla "Zero" in Helsinki. His artist alias is Hömppäherra. That roughly translates to Silly Mister.

This one's probably my all-purpose favorite at the moment (although I haven't checked Soundweave in a while and for a while that was my gold standard, so it might take back the throne).  It's a pretty awesome mix of stuff ... you really never know what's going up next.  The Nathan Fake upload is my favorite from recently.

http://hypnotic-breaks.blogspot.com/

This one is downright voluminous.  The back archives have an absolutely silly amount of music available, and almost none of it is by anyone I recognize, but the quality is so reliably high that I've found myself downloading more stuff blind from this blog than any other I've ever found.  The top 5 tags on music are "deep house," "tech house," "dub techno," "minimal," and "downtempo," so that should give you a feel for what you're in for.

The perfect blog for someone interested in ambiance, drone, electronic experimentations and avant garde awesomeness. Most of the writing is from reviews on other sites but if nothing else this blog is a brilliant archive/library of a lot of the cool stuff currently happening in these genres.

Nobody told me they were back until I was drinking with writer Dan MacRae last night and he kept telling me to e-mail Swygart so I could take part. I'm considering it.
