Oh my god it is perfect...
It must be expensive as hell though, but I really really really want one. Then again, I don't really need that many inputs. But then again, all those features...
Built in stereo mics!
Excuse me, I'm having a crisis. I'll be right back, I have to shoot myself.

Runs on USB power? 32mb SD? Can run on batteries for remote recording? Built in stereo mic pair? I don't think I've ever seen that many outputs on something so small and...portable...!

This looks like it could make my lack of ability and my lack of talent sound good.

Hmmm...

It doesn't even matter if the amp and effects sound terrible, it would STILL be an amazing piece of kit...

I mean, it's made by the same dudes who make Hartke amps, but the idea that you could slap together a small live recording with just that, six AA batteries and a handful of microphones is quite appealing!

EDIT: But with no price in sight, who knows how much better it is than a plain old Yamaha digital board and whatever computer you have lying about?

Everytime I re-read the page, something else occurs to me, so I'm gonna hold off posting until I've taken it all in...

Dawson's have a preorder price of £430; Sweetwater have $400.  But that won't include a 32GB SD, I imagine! (Sweetwater have a 1GB in the price)

Careful - it can "play back" 16 tracks, and presumably mix them down or maybe send them down the USB to the computer.  But the only physical outputs on the back are stereo line and headphones (both with level controls), and I would guess they carry the same stereo signal.

All will become clear when they link the manual to the product page (which they do once the product is available).

The toy I recently picked up was the Tascam US-1641. 14 inputs that run via USB2.0 into a computer and can each be recorded to different tracks. It's dependent on separate software for controls, but it makes full-band multitrack recording a feasible and affordable option. ($350 US) Haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces, so I'm not sure what kind of CPU/BUSS horsepower is needed to drop that many tracks onto the HD at once. It shouldn't be a problem if you save signal processing effects for later.

Though I see more and more mixers are including the USB output option, so it's really starting to be a good time to experiment with this stuff.

Not strictly on topic, but I've used some of those Zoom Handy Recorder things on the same page - the H2 and H4 and they were  a great budget combo of decent-enough mics and lots of options.  I was using them for "field recordings" rather than music recording, but all I'm trying to say is it bodes well that the same company is doing something awesome.  It's not like they have a reputation for rubbish in other areas.

I've got a Boss BR-532.

Retro, eh. It uses SmartMedia cards. They max out at 128 megs. It has one (1) XLR input. The only thing that saved it is the inclusion of RCA in. I had to hook the thing up to a P.A just to get a drum kit recorded. Its pre-amps are laughable, but I've gotten some decent recordings from it.

Technology, eh? leaps and bounds, I say.

I recently shelled out for the Tascam 1082. With that and a laptop, you've got a portable studio. The only thing I don't particularly like about that model is that it only has 4 XLR ins, which means you need a preamp with 1/4in outs if you want to get a full drum kit mic'd.

This Zoom thingy looks effing great, though. I would totally buy one if it were used and/or on sale.
