That's true... I'm into their bassist if you know what I mean :-D

--- Quote from: joenisnorac on 25 Jun 2009, 15:05 ---I've been in desperate need for some new Metal music. I like deathmetal, but i also like instrumental and melodic metal.
Recently I've been listing too:
* Children of Bodom
* The Acacia Strain
* I Killed the Prom Queen
* Lacuna Coil
* Misery Signals
--- End quote ---
Only one of those bands is metal and it's false metal at that. Since I'm sure you have NO idea which one it is, I shall tell you: Children of Bodom.
--- Quote from: Scandanavian War Machine on 25 Jun 2009, 15:26 ---this is just off the top of my head, i don't listen to much metal these days.
--- End quote ---
Clearly you don't since they're all about as metal as Abba.
--- Quote from: Zombiedude on 25 Jun 2009, 15:58 ---Mastadon,Kyuss,Agalloch, Boris, Sunn O)))
--- End quote ---
Doesn't get much more hipster than that bunch. If you throw on Mastodon, you might as well give Meshuggah a try- why overlook one nu metal band for another? Sunn O))) is about as heavy as those thunderstorm relaxation/meditation discs you can buy at Target.
--- Quote from: Harun on 25 Jun 2009, 17:17 ---some metal albums released this year that I have been enjoying immensely, in alphabetical order:
Amesoeurs - s/t: think spacey post-rock infused black metal. if you like Agaloch you'll like these guys
Animals as Leaders - s/t: hands down one of my favorite metal albums this year. The guitarist is way too talented. I also upped this album in the mf!re thread a little while back...
Architects - Hollow Crown: pretty technical metalcore. You'll like LOVE these guys if you like IKAPQ/Acacia/MisSigs
Darkest Hour - The Eternal Return: American-style Swedish melodic death. After a couple listens, this is definitely their best since Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation (which I would probably check out first - that album is amazing)
Goatwhore - Carving Out the Eyes of God: blackened death metal with catchy riffs that are sludgy as fcuk and heavier than a hundred walruses.
Gorod - Process of a New Decline: I'm still not sure how these guys can be as technical as they can and still maintain an amazing level of melody and coherence. Crazy talented, these guys are.
Hacricide - Lazarus: Another one of my favorite albums so far this year. Heavy, techincal, amazing songwriting and dynamism. Some of the softer parts reminded me of NIN, mixed with heavier Meshuggah/Gojira like riffing. A Definite must listen.
Kreator - Hordes of Chaos: THRASH/CIRCLEPIT/THRASH
Nightrage - Wearing a Martyr's Crown: Top-notch melodic death metal. Catchy riffs + solos with outrageous vibrato and scale runs = really fun listen
Obscura - Cosmogenesis : Techinical death metal with sexy fretless bass, razar-sharp riffs, ridicilous solos. Seriously, that bass,
--- End quote ---
Goatwhore blows, metalcore isn't metal, Gorod is fucking shit tech death (tech death itself is a horrific genre that is full of lame vapid music), Obscura is another one of those shitty bands. I have NO idea how you got into Kreator though, funny enough they're the only good band mentioned so far...
--- Quote from: Caspian on 25 Jun 2009, 17:40 ---In terms of doom metal good starting points would be Candlemass (King of the Grey Islands probably isn't their best but it's my favourite) and maybe My Dying Bride's Turn Loose the Swans. I guess some Sabbath would also be good- get Paranoid, Master of Reality and/or Heaven and Hell. For weirder slow albums I'd recommend Thergothon's Stream from the Heavens, Disembowelment's Transcendence into the Peripheral, and Nadja's Touched. These three albums are pretty inaccessible, though.
--- End quote ---
Nadja isn't metal (nevermind doom), diSEMBOWELMENT is a combination of death metal grind and doom and thus isn't doom per se, why the christ would you ever recommend Heaven and Hell, Paranoid should not be said in the same sentence as doom unless you're speaking of "Hand of Doom". MDB and Candlemass are horrible.
--- Quote from: Nodaisho on 25 Jun 2009, 18:01 ---I'll cover the stuff that I don't really hear anyone mentioning around here. Try Corrosion of Conformity (from Blind onward, at least. Haven't heard their earlier stuff, it is impossible to find), Crowbar (try Lifesblood for the Downtrodden, that one is more accessible than their early stuff), and Down. Also, Alabama Thunderpussy, and Black Label Society, to round out the southern metal / sludge metal while not getting into anything too off-putting. I know someone is going to come in here suggesting Eyehategod, but I don't really find them a good example of how to get to like the genre.
--- End quote ---
CoC, Down, and the rest of those SHIT bands aren't sludge. Most are just southern metal, with exception being Crowbar (which is just slowed down hardcore-ie NOT sludge). Eyehategod is the pinnacle of all sludge, but you wouldn't know that since you're too busy listening to Isis.
--- Quote from: Dimmukane on 25 Jun 2009, 18:25 ---Baroness - I just found this fanmade video, it's pretty sweet.
Cynic - fuck all the haters. Not that there are any on this board. Proto-tech-death-jazz-fusion.
Dethklok - needs no explanation
In Flames - any of their albums up to Whoracle, really driving melodeath/viking type stuff. After that they kind of stopped being good. The Jester Race/Black Ash Inheritance still hasn't gotten old.
Kronos - see Colossal Titan Strife. Probably the most deathy band I'm recommending.
Lykathea Aflame - the second most deathy. We will probably never hear music like theirs again.
Mastodon - this board is kind of love/hate about them. I like them. Whatever.
--- End quote ---
Baroness isn't even metal (seems you guys have zero concept of actual metal). Dethklok is a fucking disgrace to all metal and its creator is NOT a metalhead or funny-just another dumb wanker. *N Flamez says it all.

--- Quote from: Koremora on 25 Jun 2009, 18:29 ---Meshuggah is some sweet mathy metal, you should try obZen by them. Also I'd like to 2nd Between the Buried and Me, Alaska and Colors are GREAT albums. Anything ISIS has touched is gold, as well as Pelican and Russian Circles if you like the whole post-metal thing. Mastodon is sweet stoner/prog too... I'm just gonna list some more of these:
Baroness - amazing southern prog metal
BORIS - REALLY heavy Japanese stoner/doom metal
Cult of Luna - Swedish post-metal band, somewhat similar to ISIS, perhaps a bit darker
The Dillinger Escape Plan - thrashy, mathy experimental metal, perhaps a bit hardcore in it as well
Gojira - awesome Prog. Death metal, if you like BTBAM you will likely like this, and perhaps even if you don't
High on Fire - fantastic thrashy stoner/doom metal
Kylesa - again with the southern metal, somewhat crust-punk/psychedelic tinged
Neurosis - the original "post-metal" band, slow and atmospheric, crushingly heavy
OM - drone/stoner metal with an Eastern European tinge. Somewhat spiritual in nature, think of chanting.
Jesu - drone metal, but generally major key and more upbeat. I call it power drone.
Opeth - classic progressive death metal band, nobody really does it better than these guys.
Rosetta - another post-metal band, their self description of "Neurosis covering Stars of the Lid" says it best.
Sleep - Stoner/doom metal, original members went on to form High on Fire and OM, respectively. Sleep's Holy Mountain and Dopesmoker are amazing.
Sunn O))) - Drone doom metal, perhaps the best (or most well-known). Sounds dark, IMPOSSIBLY heavy, and equally slow.
Tombs - An interesting mix of atmospheric black metal and thrash, Winter Hours is a great album.
Torche - another very thick, heavy southern metal band, with pop influences of all things. Pop doom? I guess it's possible.
Wolves in the Throne Room - amazing atmospheric black metal/ambient music.
--- End quote ---
Probably the worst, most misguided post so far. Hell, I'm going to dissect this one and prove why each one is wrong. Baroness aren't metal, as already established. Cult of Luna are a post rock band. Boris is not doom metal at all, nor are they heavy. The Dillinger Escape Plan is in NO fathomable way metal-they're just shitty mathcore. Gojira is about as interesting as Opeth... High on Fire is WHOLYY inferior to Matt Pike's earlier band. Kylesa is fucking crusty sludge, you moron. Neurosis is the epitome of artsy faggy pseudo metal. Opeth is for the mentally challenged who like to seem unique by listening to metal. Rosetta follows suit of Neurosis. Sleep is simply stoner metal and probably the best band in the genre. Sunn O))) isn't a metal band-they're just drone. Tombs sucks. Torche isn't a fucking southern metal band, they're a pop rock band that downtunes. It's a pretty simplistic concept. WitTR wish they could suck Varg Vikerne's cock, but settled for Malefic's. MESHUGGAH IS NOT METAL and holy fuck neither is Pelican. If a metal riff is not present, then the band isn't a metal band. Simple concept that has eluded almost all of you.
I wouldn't say I'm a troll, but I'd be lying. That said, my posts aren't troll posts, but rather informative guides. I simply wanted to correct a few misconceptions that I saw when Caspian linked me to this thread.
KharBevNor:
Oh, hey Ultraboris. Didn't know you read QC.
