KharBevNor:
I just really love metal. Sometimes I forget how much, but I do love it so. I will be sitting there listening to my neo-folk or industrial or dub or whatever, and suddenly winamp will grab me by the FUCKING BALLS and make me remember.

hey, thread starter, don't end up being like THIS^ guy.  not that i think you will, but still, there seems to be a disturbingly large proportion of people who get into metal who suddenly get that kinda mindset, and as annoying as it is for everyone else, the worst part is that their closedmindedness stops them from hearing and getting into stuff they might themselves enjoy if they gave a chance.

i'm not gonna say i like EVERY band that's been suggested on this thread, but don't let pricks like this guy sway you - check it all out and make your own mind up.

This, just the total other way around. Everything from Clayman and onwards blows my mind, every day. In Flames has the track record of Gods and shit. Seriously. Check out the single they released with the latest album - Tilt, Earser and Abnegation are all fucking awesome songs (click the HQ button, it does wonders with the sound)

The band did a big change of direction midway through their career. I think they've gotten better, more melodic, and their vocalist learned to sing/growl properly. There's always someone going "bluh bluh COLONY bluh bluh" in every single fucking review and youtube-comment section. It made me give up on music reviewers in general.

Other bands:

Nightrage - A new disease is born HELL YES. This one works better in normal quality. huh...

Eluveitie is pure melodeath/folk love, check out inis Mona. The second (Spirit) and third (Slania) albums are really epic and , the last was a acoustic thing, still good, but not metal.  They have promised to return with more growl and metal and awesome.

Soilwork - Okay, these guys are best buddies with In Flames, so you know what to expect. light the torch (HQ) gets a lot of points for an awesome music video.

Equilibrium - more melodeathish stuff - in German, still epic. blut im auge explains why I love them. This album really gives me a pirate feeling. Heh.

That's the best ones right now. Check out Ho-chi-Ming as well, they are sweeet.

Also, this.

Khar, i know about WoY but didn't really see any point mentioning them; I'd agree that they're terrible though. Also, Where no Life Dwells is a pretty accessible dm album; it's a bit cavernous maybe, but not super fast or anything. It was one of my first DM albums; I reckon it's the sort of thing that even the most casual metal fan can get into (not that that's an insult, it's a rad album). On another note, I notice you didn't mention any thrash- you don't care for it or something? Just curious, is all; I prefer it a fair bit over death metal myself.

Honestly, what is so wrong with being elitist? I listen to a pretty huge variety of music (check my last.fm; username's caspiannnnn) but I feel no need to compromise as to what I like and what I don't like, and I tell it like I see it. There's nothing wrong with that. It seems that when people call someone "elitist", they tend to mean "people who have opinions about music that aren't always positive".
