I'll go ahead and up Technocracy and Animosity in the mediaf!re thread. For the record, I thought listening to Blind was theoretically about as fun as sucking on the ass of roadkill, but liked everything previous to that. That stuff is certainly one of the finest examples of 80s crossover out there.
Edited to add: The whole genre, in my opinion, is a little whack, but I can't deny that COC is one of the best examples of it. They're up in mediafire if you want to check them out.
Dimmukane:
Don't listen to Snalin, early In Flames was better. That's when their songwriting actually went places and wasn't derivative. Most of Jasper's creativity petered out during Colony. To be honest, though, it kind of depends on how deathy you like your metal. If you ask me, there is a lot more raw energy and harmony behind their earlier work. I tried to tailor my list to things the OP might like, and he said he didn't mind death metal, so I leaned in that direction. He'd probably really like Reroute To Remain.
Jed:
Here's a few.
Impaled Nazarene = Black
Cradle of Filth = Black/Melodic
Finntroll = Folk?
Mokoma = Speed/Trash
The Kovenant = Industrial
Ruoska = Industrial
The 69 Eyes = Goth?
Sentenced = Goth/Death/Heavy
Enjoy.

Their cold white light album is pretty enjoyable. It's sort of a suicidal version of the Black Album; polished, accessible, quite awesome. Definitely worth checking out.
BeoPuppy:
Trying to give someone a recommendation of Cradle Of Filth via a Sisters of Mercy cover may not be the best way to go.
Might I suggest Lord Abortion?
