I don't think you understand perspective!
Because vanishing points most definitely do work.

No they don't. They are an _approximation_ and you can't go arbitrarily far outside the frame (as xroot did) and have it still work.

Of course you can't go right outside the frame, as they are only designed to simulate the effects of perspective within a human viewpoint - if you could see in an 180 degree viewpoint it wouldn't work, but it works when it is used within a realistic frame.
