The original kick/ban probably wouldn't have been about being creepy, more like him behaving a moron repeating stupid things in the channel.  Possibly he thought he was being funny, but I can only see stupidity/repeating an overplayed meme.

"THE NEWSBOX IS FURIOUSLY MASTURBATING TO THE PICTURES YOU POSTED IN THE PHOTO THREAD" was written by either Jeph or another admin about a thread in a part of the board that is full of regulars who would understand that is was a joke.  That is the difference.  Context.  You can walk up to a friend and make an in-joke.  Doing a similar thing to a complete stranger will almost certainly get you a less positive reaction.

There is basically no way to know who is making a stupid joke and who is being an absolute creep unless that person has been around for a while and we know what they are like.  Saying that regulars/people who've been around for a long time/have a larger postcount get away with things is in part missing the point.  They don't necessarily "get away with things" as much as I know that they are joking, whereas I don't know some 10-post guy's sense of humour yet.

Also, regardless of the intention when people say things along the lines of "Hannelore and Marigold should totally have sex!" I don't see that as a joke, because (unless it is someone putting shit on the people who constantly say stupid shit like this in the QC Discussion area) it contains absolutely no elements of humour at all.  Maybe I am lacking a part of me that makes me see humour in stupid shit like this, but if I am I don't think I would ever want that part of me restored, because the thought of becoming even more of an idiot than I currently am appalls me.
