Describe your favorite indie band as "x meets y."

sean:
man this thread is so good.

scarred:

--- Quote from: MadassAlex on 02 Aug 2009, 09:04 ---Indie doesn't even mean anything anymore.

It should mean "independent", but most people seem to use it to refer to a kind of diatonic rock that draws its heavier aspects from grunge and lighter aspects from acoustic balladry.

I guess if you take the term literally, my favourite "indie" band is Animals As Leaders, which is kind of Metroid meets Guitar Sorcery In General with powerful progressive leanings.

Oh aren't you adorable!

Forumz, can we keep him?

a pack of wolves:

--- Quote from: Jeans on 02 Aug 2009, 10:10 ---Look guys we don't have to piss all over new people because they assume we like indie music when the subtitle of the comic this forum actually belongs to contained the words "indie rock" for ages and ages. The assumption made is not that the entire forum listens exclusively to indie rock, but rather that it is an indie rock discussion forum, and that that is what one talks about! That is an important distinction. One might argue that more lurking is in order but really who cares? If you feel horribly offended by the fact that a complete stranger assumes you listen to indie rock on a forum belonging to a comic about indie rock, that is your problem.

This. Plus, if you look in the mediafire thread that thing is bloated with indie rock. Or look at a lot of the bands people get excited about. I mean, people on here gush over Sloan.

I was in a band that once got described as "Party Of Helicopters meets Huggy Bear." Sadly, we weren't that good.

Be My Head:
Taking "Indie" to mean independent, and considering my current favourite artist wasn't in a band...

Erik Satie is like Claude Debussy meeting John Cage.

HOORAH!

sir digby:
Discovery is like vampire weekend meets ra ra riot.

Oh wait.
