--- Quote from: Koremora on 06 Sep 2009, 13:45 ---I don't really understand the attitude that everyone who votes for Animal Collective/likes them is some kind of bandwagon-ing Pitchfork dick-suck. A lot of people just genuinely enjoy their music for what it is outside of hype. Seems kinda ridiculous to assume that when something becomes vaguely popular, everyone who likes that music is only doing so because it's fashionable to do so. I think MPP is a legitimately great album of psychedelic/experimental electronic pop, and would have thought that regardless of what score it got on Pitchfork. If you don't like AC, fine, but don't wear it like a crown of anti-hipster backlash.

I am getting sick of hearing about Pitchfork because the only two places I ever here anyone mention it are here, and at the very, very worst house parties and so every single person I have met in the flesh who actually knows what Pitchfork is is a tedious dickbag and so you guys keep giving me flashbacks auuuuuugh

as for making everyone listen to every single album up for voting, this is a ridiculous idea for many reasons.

1) The albums linked only work in the US. This puts anyone outside the US at an automatic disadvantage as we have to track down half the albums ourselves.

2) In a few cases even when I've heard both albums I've abstained because I think they're both pretty bad or nothing special

3) It would probably take about a month of straight listening to listen to the albums on the list I haven't heard. How long would it take to get EVERYONE to listen to all the albums they haven't heard?

4) Most of the albums I have heard on this list I have a personal history with in some form or another hence why I voted for them, that usually takes a while to develop. Kid A for example reminds me of a very specific point in my life, the only thing that Marissa Nadler album is going to remind me of is that time I participated in a giant album knockout tournament

Also what the fuck firefox is flagging "Reminds" as a spelling error.

Bastardous Bassist:
But, with those people, it's really fun to set them on each other.  They spend the entire party trying to come up with bands the other person hasn't heard of.  I was once chatting up a girl at one of those parties, and one of those people started talking to me, which was miserable, but then another one showed up and they spent the entire time doing the above while the cute girl and I sat and laughed at them.

Koremora:
The only reason I brought up Pitchfork is because the fact that they gave MPP a high score seems to be the justification for people who don't like Animal Collective to immediately dismiss any of their fans as being Pitchfork drones. I agree with you Hat, Pitchfork (and the people who actually talk about it) are fucking annoying and tedious namedroppers for the most part. I'm arguing that it's unfair to assume that anyone who likes a band that a particular website also likes somehow got their tastes purely from that website. People who like AC should not be strawmen for bashing Pitchfork. If you want to do that, just go, "Hey, I don't like Pitchfork. Or Animal Collective. That is my opinion and you guys can also have an opinion that is different from mine without being pigeon-holed."
