EDIT: OMG I made it to Oregon! Fuck yes! So it turns out that Kris did actually die. Oli and I were the only ones to survive the journey, but I had cholera and he was in "fair health." Go us!

It literally did not say, you just died. Probably of dysentery or cholera.
