I've been to 16 NHL games. 15 of them involving the Predators.

Make that 17 and 16, if you include pre-season games.

You mean the Perds, right?

I've seen quite a few NHL games, including playoff games.  That said, I doubt they're getting a dime of my money for years to come.

I can't answer for ev4n, but I can say that Shane has expressed unprecedented levels of butthurt at the new Sharks sweaters. I agree with him on the white ones, but the teal ones look incredible. super clean.

Not getting the Sabres reference.

I have to say, though, I'm a huge fan of places like Toronto and Montreal, where the jerseys are (almost) eternal and unchanging.

It was a joking way to suggest why you'd "given up" on the NHL.

of course, it predicts 105 for the senators, so take that with a grain of salt....

VP has a point, Patrick. The Sharks had the perfect hockey sweater when they started in 1991 - and they proceeded to #### it up in subsequent alterations.

200 more days until the Stanley Cup Playoffs! :)

And only three more days until the Pirates finally wake up and realize, "Whoa, hey, we're in the playoffs?" and lose to the Reds in the Wild Card Play-in Game. ;)

It's not an exhibition game. It's a real game that counted in the standings - as much as Steelers fans would have preferred it not to.

Real.

Illegal move in pro football.

I never get why people think that rugby is more bad-ass. To me, soccer and rugby with their continued play are just way softer than two mammoth teams, half of the players chosen for size and strength, bashing into each other 70 times a game in head-on colissions.

Better description: the center can only transfer the ball to another player to start the play by pushing or "snapping" the ball between his legs.

St Mary's had a cool trick play for years where they would silent audible, and the QB would immediately place the ball between the guard's knees.  He'd then audible, and some bizarre play feint would go off.  Somewhere in the middle, the guard would grab the ball and start running.

That's called the "fumblerooski", after a play done in the NCAA by, I believe, Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.

(Quick look - Wow, that was all the way back in 1984? I feel old.)

The QB hiked the ball, put it down on the ground, and the right guard grabbed it, picked it up and ran into the end zone.

It was outlawed shortly thereafter.

There seem to be two schools of thought.

1. If a sport requires more padding, it is a result of the sport being so tough.
2. Less padding makes a sport tougher because unprotected athletes are more macho.

Brad Marsh was one of the last players to play in the NHL without a helmet, under the grandfather clause.  He said he once played for 6 games with a helmet, and said he took as many shots to the head in those 6 games as he did in the rest of his 10+ year career put together.

This weekend our footy Grand Finals take place. Here's a taste of the pansified clashes likely to take place between the small, weak, positively puny players of the NRL, who are of course never chosen for their size and strength:
The main event is the Sydney Roosters vs. Manly Sea Eagles (Eastern Sydney vs. Northern Sydney basically). The Sea Eagles will probably win, but everyone hates Manly (US readers think of the Yankees) so everybody except their supporters will be barracking for the Roosters.

So, London had a World League/NFL Europe team for like, a decade. Not to mention that every year the NFL has this game in London, they sell out Wembley, and they sell it out rather fast for what usually ends up being two shitty teams.

Does Ryan still come around here at all? He used to play for a team in the top British league. Let him explain England's fascination with football in better detail.

Meh. He'll be out of the league in short order, like that kid in Dallas after he lit up the Preds for a hattie in his first NHL game.

Idunno man, he's got 6 goals in his first 3 games of the season. He makes plays happen, he fires pucks at the net, he fires up his teammates without even sharing a language with them, and even more so now that he's gone and achieved an unexpected success... if he continues to deliver consistently, I think he'll be a Shark (or at least an NHL player) for years to come.
