So since my last NHL-based post my team has completely imploded and instead of looking for a top 8 finish and home advantage in the playoffs they are now looking to just scrape their way into the playoffs at all. However, each other supported team here is doing fairly well; Bruins are in the playoff places and results look to be going their way enough to stay there; Capitals are still top 3 in the NHL, 1st in the Eastern Conference and Buffalo Sabres are comfortably within the playoffs too.
Now that it is coming up to trade time and the Olympics we will see what this does to the rosters for the teams on the bubble such as Flyers, Canadiens, Stars, Kings, Rangers and maybe surprisingly the Red Wings although with the shocking performances of Chris Osgood in net it has been up to rookie keeper Jimmy Howard to take the reins and he is doing fairly well, if not amazingly. However, at the bottom we can safely add Columbus and Edmonton to Carolina and Toronto for being completely out of the running for a playoff place and it is likely that they will lose players in order to gain draft picks next year.
Some better news (for me anyway) is that I am still well within touching distance of winning my fantasy hockey league so I guess that is some consolation, even though it is pretty small.
