I mentioned on another thread that my favourite type of music is the sort you could fight a war/battle/mano a alieno while listening to it.
Music's been an inextricable part of warfare for a long time. Scottish and British forces marching to battle with bagpipers at the head, Zulu war chants, Maori Hakkas and of course, with the invention of personal audio players, you've got many images of US Servicemen rolling in the desert with iPods blasting. There's even the famous story of the first troops heading into Baghdad playing "The roof is on fire" by the Bloodhound Gang.
So what music is good for fighting to? Not just fighting people, I mean even Abigail Whistler had her tunes.
"Shes making playlists. She likes to listen to mp3s when she hunts. Its like her own internal Soundtrack, you know? Dark core, trip-hop, whatever kids are listening to these days. Me, I'm more of a David Hasselhoff fan, you know?"
I say you can't go wrong with a little metal. Man O War (they also do some good stuff for funerals), Dragonforce (Who, ironically, I found because some Jazz fan Hipster students I knew were laughing at it), Blue Oyster Cult...
Then you've got the Goth stuff like Cruxshadows and Within Temptation, the more Folk-y stuff like Heather Alexander, some of the Grunge/Pop stuff like Breaking Benjamin and Rise Against.
Finally, you couldn't mention music of this type without mentioning some of the instrumental stuff. Ride of the Valkyries, Battle without Honor or Humanity, several of the songs from the Iron Man soundtrack...
So, what's your playlist to fight/image fighting to?
