A ton of people went to a free movie that played outside a couple weeks ago and it was really cold out.

That got me wondering if anyone would show up to see some old movies at the library.

Everyone knows that the best public domain movie is Night of the Living dead and I am considering showing The Last Man on Earth as well.

We have a nice auditorium and a projector and everything.

We are going to get a license to show movies in the library soon but until then it's got to be public domain stuff for a public viewing.

Any feelings?

Do you think anyone would actually show up and watch old scary movies at the library on a Thursday Night?

  • They're talking about me of course

Sounds like a good idea to me, I'd love to go to something like that with my friends  :-)

How old is the library building? Older is better for this kind of thing  :-P

They actually just did some remodeling and the auditorium looks really nice now.

But there is an art display in there now and there are some really creepy sculptures there including one creep looking one with real antlers on it's head.

If you're in a college town, then yes times ten. As long as you get word out, that would probably have a good turn out, particularly with college kids.

The bitchin' rad idea must go with a bitchin' rad name. Ideas, guys!

Also, Nosferatu is a winner in this case.

And everyone seems to like Nosferatu.

I was considering running Vincent Price's "Last Man on Earth" but that once doesn't seem to be as popular.  Maybe I will pass on that.

"Night of the Living Dead" is another popular one.

Hmm.  So Nosferatu and Night of the Living Dead double feature you think?

Yeah, go for it!

Some friends and I did something similar a year or so back with classic silent movies, got a digital projector and a good piano player and set them up in a warehouse. Turned out pretty fun! The second time we did it we had a full house, as well. Get your local community/college radio guys to put the word out, plenty of people will be in to it I reckon.

With cake ownership set to C and cake consumption set to K, then C + K = 0.  So indeed as one consumes a cake, one simultaneously deprives oneself of cake ownership.

I'm not allowed in most of the libraries around where I grew up and I'm not sure if they have a database or something like that but if I was allowed into a library I would totally see something like that.

Jeeze Jimmy!  How the heck did you get kicked out of all the public libraries?

That's a bad idea.  He's a wank, and the books suck, but virtually every 11-16 year old girl who could be induced to pick up a book has fallen in love with him.  Insult Edward and all you'll get is some chuckles from adults and a lot of very angry teens.  It's usually bad policy to alienate a significant chunk of your audience.  Go positive, not negative.

This is the real flyer.

See the 17+ thing?  Since I am showing Night of the Living Dead I probably can't promote the event to 11-16 year olds anyway.

Jeeze Jimmy!  How the heck did you get kicked out of all the public libraries?

My mum took my library card (hers having been cancelled for doing exactly the same thing) and borrowed a bunch of stuff from all the libraries around where I lived, she then did not return any of the things she borrowed. When I asked her why she said she liked them too much to give them back. She did the same thing at the local video store.

This event was somewhat a failure.

We got a few people who really wanted to see Nosferatu and a handful of people that wanted to see Night of the Living Dead.

All in all a pretty big failure considering all the promotion I did for the event.

Unless you count that one guy I talked to who always wanted to see Nosferatu but kept missing it on AMC every time it was on.  He was pretty happy.

That doesn't sound like a failure to me. Bear in mind that you were doing a daytime screening on a weekday, it sounds like you got a comparable turnout to my local cinema.
