Why are F5ers so impatient?
« on: 27 Oct 2009, 21:23 »

Take me, for example (except I'm on a Mac so it's splat-R instead of F5).

I like the comic, it's engaging, touching, and funny, but it's not crack cocaine. So why am I camped out waiting for Jeph's Twitter to update? It'll be the same comic whenever it arrives. Why can't I wait?

And why do I start lying in wait at midnight Eastern time, when to the best of my recollection Jeph has *never* promised midnight updates?

There's an obvious answer, of course, which is that I don't have a life. Let's see if I'm still this impatient after I find the download repository for lives.

I actually have a life, somewhere around here.

I choose to ignore it...

Yeah that life is sitting around here somewhere, but I still need to decompress the files.

Maybe it's variable-interval variable-ratio conditioning at work.

This thread needs a poll.

When do you read the comic?
- The morning after it's posted
- I start refreshing after I read the current one to catch it THE MOMENT IT'S ON THE SERVER
- Right after Jeph tweets "ok guys comic's up"
- I let them build up for a while and binge-read them all
- There's a comic here?!

splat-R

I've used Macs since the early 90s and that's a new one on me. XD

Probably.  What's your facial expression when you refresh?

No, that's not irony, just sleep madness.

And it's Saturday.  Happy Halloween, all you monsters!

Hells yeah, love Halloween.
Thought about using a Ouija board about an hour and a half ago, chickened out.
Shouldn't have gone to see Paranormal Activity the other day.

Great time of year.  Ouija boards suck, though.

I'm now seriously considering your avatar for my pumpkin.  Just the right amount of contrast, and those eyes are petty spooky!

If you could pull it off it'd probably be the most Epic Jack O' Lantern ever.
I wish you luck in your endeavor.

Whose turn is it to stand outside Jeph's door repeating over and over in a whiny voice "Are we there yet?"?

*pout*... You have problems...

I live many thousand kilometres east of Jeph, means, living practically in "his future". Timezones and such. You people are nearly always about to get your morning fix... for me, it is every morning waiting until midday - even when he is punctual. ;o). That makes you accustomed to "wait".

But wait, doesn't that put you many thousands of km west of Jeph too, in his past?  Then you can just check it every morning, get yesterday's comic, and be good for the day...

Oh, wait.  Then you'd be a day behind on the forum.

Nevermind...

Lucky me; I live at exactly the right distance from Jeph that the comic updates just as I sit down at my desk at work in the morning, thus distracting me from doing anything so uncouth as productive effort for another few minutes.

I'm lucky in that I can wait until I wake up and the comic's been up for several hours and I don't have to combat impatient F5ers for server time.
