What is going on with Faye??

Dora has clearly gone back to her old ways and put a hex on Faye.
The sight of Marten as Ichiro changed her view of boys.  Whether for better or for worse, time will tell.
Nothing's going on, Faye's just helping Penelope get that dirt off her shoulder.
Faye has clearly gone off the deep end.  Next thing you know, she'll be looking FORWARD to Angus' visits!!  NOOOOOOO!!!
I want Border Reiver to do the WCT's from now on.

I don't suppose people will stop thinking of Angus as a creeper, will they?

Some people will never be ready to accept Angus. Angus and Faye could celebrate their fiftieth anniversary with their two children, six grandchildren and three cats and there will be someone on the QC Forum saying how Angus buying Faye that diamond tennis bracelette is trying too hard.

From Angus' POV there's reasonable room for doubt. What shocked Faye was that it was her honest assessment of the situation, and that's the answer she gave him. No snark, no elaborate lie. She's still clearly dubious about a Date, but "hanging out" isn't going to kill her either.

Well, OK, maybe not, but I do generally prefer punny titles over the baldly descriptive.

I had to go back several strips just to remember what "last night" was, and I'm figuring it was the night they were hanging out with Marten's dad. If that's the case I'm sure she'd rather just go crash after she gets off work. It's nice to see that she's not totally blowing him off and that her excuse is legit. Go Faye! ::happy dance of joy::

Some people will never be ready to accept Angus. Angus and Faye could celebrate their fiftieth anniversary with their two children, six grandchildren and three cats and there will be someone on the QC Forum saying how Angus buying Faye that diamond tennis bracelette is trying too hard.
Of course, at the rate QC time flows*, Jeph will have to have had his consciousness transferred into an android body to draw this, and we will have to do likewise to see it (which is, incidentally, an answer to his post on another thread, the thread that I dare not name, or perhaps simply don't feel like naming). Other than that, though, I concur. You did forget the people who will claim that if Faye had just done the right thing, Sven wouldn't have died of that new strain of syphilis, though.
And I'm not going to resist the temptation to say "I told you so" about Angus.
Nice to see someone who knows his limits.

As for dearest Faye, I'm not sure giving Penelope whiplash makes this a completely successful effort at normalcy. But it's nice to see someone feeling they're making progress.

Edit:* an observation, not a gripe. Dammit.

Change the location to a college campus cafeteria, and I had almost the exact same one sided conversation over 10 years ago, except Penelope was the gay classmate/friend of the guy I liked, who got him hired just to talk to me to see if I liked him. I kind of miss the days where I obsessed for hours over a bland statement from my crush... ::sigh::

And yes, I am insinuating that Faye is genuinely starting to crush on Angus. Woo!

Theres progress and then there is PROgress, since Faye seems to to have simply switched to a new way of freaking out over 'boy things' i dont see thr PRO part of the PROgress...

Then again, maybe violently shaking Pen *IS* considered and improvement over 'random punchings' (something she hasn't done in a while anyway)...

Then again, maybe im just a negitive person...

Then again...

Then again, maybe i have run out of things to say but still dont want to stop cause im bored...

Since Hannelore abandoned her dream of being uploaded to a machine intelligence, a transplant into a nonsmoking body was a natural step.

Edit: thinking about this some more (to waste even more time), it makes sense that she would choose Faye. Pennelope is in the best shape of the group, and Dora has a healthier lifestyle than Faye, but Hannelore would have had to avoid both as hosts because they're both in physical relationships, which Hanners can't handle. Marigold would be an option, but no way would Hanners transfer into a body with infected pimples.

It's scary when deliberate nonsense makes sense.

Normal for Faye would be "I can't date! I have ISSUES! My father shot himself dead! No reason! My life is on hold! No room for boys! Relationships scare me! Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down!"

Okay, I made that last one up. But you get the idea.

Oh, almost forgot: "I gotta redirect my rage over my wheel-spinning self and my crack-pot dad by hitting someone!" Shaking is better. A little. As long as Penelope's brain doesn't come loose or something.

Uh, I don't count "Not tonight, I'm still kinda thrashed, maybe another night" as not giving the run around. Some other time is always code for run around in my world.

Well, I'm mighty glad I don't inhabit your world. If I replied like Faye to a casual, weeknight, no-notice, movie invitation, and I picked up even the slightest hint that the guy was thinking "she's giving me the run-around", I'd write him off as packing way  too much of a sense of entitlement. I mean sorry, a guy is not entitled to expect me to drop my plans for the evening at a moment's notice, even if they are just for dinner, a shower, and an early night. But if the guy isn't totally repulsive, "maybe another night" is a perfectly legitimate response. Would you prefer: "Fuck off! I wouldn't go out with you if you were the last man on Earth, and baby Jesus asked me to!"?

Some other time is always code for run around in my world.

I guess people would interpret it different ways. When I was younger and too scared to reject a guy outright I would say "some other time" a lot but they always believed I was actually being sincere and wanted to do something with them some other time.

I find that if you are genuinely interested in hanging out with a guy, the best way to make sure he knows you are not giving him the run around is to offer a different night to do something. Faye probably would have saved a lot of her freakout just then if she had thought to do that.

This holds together and makes sense: the idea that Faye is sincere but doesn't have the experience to know what "maybe some other time" means (or maybe she never got a copy of the Girlese Code Book: my wife claims never to have gotten a copy herself).

Dora or Raven would have been better people to cheer on Faye's success, but Pennelope was way funnier.

I think Jeph is mocking us, because Faye's conversation with herself totally reminded me of the way we over-analyze stuff.

I would agree with that if I hadn't sat around having this conversation with myself all too many times, only from the other end of things. (Did she really mean some other time, or was she giving me the brush-off? etc., etc.)

Actually, Faye is contrary enough that she probably wouldn't be exulting if Dora or Raven was doing it for her, but pointing out how unsuccessful she was. Also, Raven would have been hissing 'set another time, give him another time' in Faye's ear. Dora may have a sixth sense for sexy things, but Raven is the Datemaster.

I actually saw, or think I saw, the Girlese Code Book once. Next thing I knew, I was waking up with a helluva headache and a knot on the back of my head. Saw the Great Tome of Manlaw once, too, but for some reason every page had had enough beer spilled on it that it was illegible. Or maybe that was just how it was written.

First, the Great Tome does not exist and you should not therefore go around spreading silly rumours about it where girls could hear. Second, the beer is the writing; why else do you think we invented Beer Goggles?

"Some other time" is always code for giving the brush-off?  Oh no no -- waaaaaay too efficient.  Inflection, expression, body language, and context are the real code.  Break that, and then you'll know how to . . . communicate!   :-o  Verbal ninja sneaks into conversation like wind . . .

Also, considering the way Faye has previously given Angus the brush-off (throwing him across the room, for example), he may think she's given him a come-on.  "Hmm, no contusions.  Maybe she likes me?"  As disappointed as I was not to see Angus as Sousuke-kuuuun, it'll be fun to see where Jeph goes with this.  And I am wondering where some of Marten's Ichiro pics are gonna end up -- Pintsize may have a collection of 'shopped versions already.

Raven is the Datemaster.

Ha!  Love it -- I want to see that on a movie poster with Raven in appropriate Datemaster garb.   :-D

He's probably going to combine them with the stills of Marten singing in a towel for accompanying his Magical Love Gentleman/xkcd slashfic. Although the difference in art between the upper and lower body might give him some trouble.

Why is penelope wearing a NASCAR shirt (Dale Earnhart's number, I thnk)?  Or am I missing some other obscure cultural reference (again)...?
Or maybe she just likes shirts with numbers on.

I didn't realize until just now how truly amazing the artwork has become.  I mean, I've noticed some differences and commented on them, but between the comic you linked and todays... just wow.  The old style was certainly nothing to scoff at, but what Jeph has worked out here is very very good.
