Nerd Exam
« on: 04 Dec 2009, 12:55 »

This image, however, is too small. I shall repair to my photoshop layer and make a large image of many spaceships that shall provide a true challenge.

Name all the space ships! In order to better reflect conditions in space the ships are not aligned in any way and the scale is difficult to judge. Whoever first names all these space ships is a true geek/nerd whatever. As a prize, I will draw absolutely anything you can describe to me.

To make it interesting, the challenge is nigh on impossible, although it currently only includes three REALLY obscure spaceships. To make it even more interesting, I will add more ships every couple of days.

I can see an A-Wing, some weird X-wing, one of the good guy star wars ships which I've just forgotten the name of, the calamari cruiser thing (is that the right name?) and lots of ones I don't know.

holy shit that is hard. I recognize spaceships from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, possibly the fortress from Robotech, possibly the abandoned hulk from Alien, and then I have no idea about the rest.

oh wait maybe that's one of the klingon warbirds, I dunno

only this is partially right.

I'll give you a clue in saying that a good working knowledge of ridiculous Gerry Anderson live action projects would help enormously.

Also three of these aren't from TV or films.

nah it's not a calamari cruiser, I think the ship you're talking about is one of the transport ships they used to get their asses off of Hoth.

If you can't name at least six of these, Khar will steal your lunch money.

I recognize 2 of the star wars ships, but thats it. Maybe if you threw in the independence day space ship i would get up to 3.

While we're talking about favorite ships, I love the Clone Wars Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry, also known as the Republic Attack Gunship/Clone Wars Republic Gunship.  The things were just badass to me.  Look at this sucker:

I also loved the one they had in the Clone Wars episode after they introduced General Grievous.

TIE Defender, Nebulon-B escort frigate, Z-95, Gallofree transport.

Thankfully that is all I know, although I vaguely recognise some others. Incidentally, I only know of the exact names because of the game Star Wars: Empire at War.

Ballard, the internet would crack this shit in minutes.

These guesses:

Sulaco, Borg Sphere, Liberator, Viper, Sun Crusher, Battleship Yamato, TIE Defender, Nebulon-B escort frigate, Z-95, Gallofree transport.

Are all correct.

Remember that some of these ships are upside down. This is space.

I will add more ships on Sunday if no one gets everything.

I'll also say that, at the moment, all Star Trek and Star Wars ships have been guessed. You're gonna need better nerd-fu than that.

Ships I can actually identify (I haven't scrolled to read replies)

-TIE Defender
-Nebulon-B Frigate
-Z-95 Headhunter
-Colonial Viper mk2
-The LEXX?  Or the Valley Forge, from Silent Running.  Can't tell.  I think it's the Valley Forge.
-Sun Crusher

Edit to add:  GR-75 transport ship.

It definitely looks Gerry Anderson as fuck but I'm thinking a UFO from UFO? My memories of that programme are extremely hazy, but it seems the most likely one for it to be from. I'm sure the one in the middle far left is him too, maybe a SHADO ship from the same show but I really don't know. The bit on the front's a missile, I remember that much.

Actually, do we mean the same one? I mean the flying saucer looking thing with the green bit at the top.

Oh, and I didn't notice nobody had spotted the Nostromo top left yet, thought we'd had both that and the Sulaco.

Lesseeeeeeee

I see a UFO from the series UFO
Valley Forge and one of her sister ships from Silent Running
Liberator from Blakes 7
A Starfighter from the Buck Rodgers television series
Is that the Dark Star behind the UFO?
A Cylon fighter from the original BSG
Along with a Viper from the same
An Eagle from Space: 1999
An X Wing
Hey! Isn't that the Sulaco above and just to the right of the Buck Rodgers Fighter?
