I like the look of the cream cheese one best, this is what I did today with a milk based one:

There are blueberry & vanilla sponge made with sweetner & sugar & very low fat spread.




I'm caling them "Happy Cakes For When You Are Blue"



They will have bright blue smiley faces on them in a bit...I love blue food.

Then you use vegan cream cheese! Which I think tastes better any way.




(And thats from someone who would and does put bacon on everything. So uh...not very vegan at all)

Yeah Tofutti 'Better Than Cream Cheese' is pretty stand-up. Other vegan things have their limitations but their fake cream cheese is pretty good.

I feel like since I am posting I should comment on icing but typically I just use some combination of butter/cream cheese, beat it until smooth, then add sugar/cocoa powder/whiskey/espresso until it tastes good and has the texture I'm looking for.

Score one more for vegan cream cheese, The Lady made (dairy-free, egg-free) chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese icing last week and they were amaaaaazing.

Speaking of which, dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free recipes, anyone?

I recently made James' vegan brownie pie. It was fantastic. Super fantastic delicious. You could not add the nuts and it would still be fantastic. I traded it for labor. My piercer removed my microdermal for it, and she thought it was totally absolutely the best super fantastic delicious, as well.
