Treme! From the creators of the Wire

Ozymandias:
I think if I were to watch one of these two shows, it would be Boardwalk Empire. Looks pretty interesting and there hasn't been a lot of good prohibition-era media in a while.

I never watched The Sopranos or The Wire though

What? The Wire was one of the most realistic and gritty and downbeat shows on TV while simultaneously being one of the most hilarious and life-affirming and strangely beautiful.

yellowfoliage:
I must confess I am only in the middle of the first season of The Wire (started when Treme mania kicked in, have had it under reccommendation for a loooooong time), so perhaps I have not hit the majority of the humor yet, but so far it seems a little... dreary. Not in terms of characterization, but the cinematography and the overall tone. I don't mean that as an insult by any means, by the way.

Inlander:
It's not a sitcom by any means but the writer's attempts to realistically depict inner-city life extends to providing their characters with plenty of droll remarks, one-liners, practical jokes, and gallows humour, just as real life people express in even the direst circumstances.

KvP:
Shut up Harry.

Shut up Arthur. Watch the show.
