How the hell do you treat super bad sunburn? I haven't been this badly burned since I was a kid. My chest is completely burned and my knees have been burned, it sucks so much. Other than apply aloe nonstop, what can I do?

Keep it constantly wet. If you're not at work or whatever, spray it with cold water every half an hour or whenever it has all evaporated. Moisturizer/aloe does a decent job but there is no substitute for keeping it actually damp or soaking it.

Cold/lukewarm baths are also nice. Also you should drink lots of water. I found out with my last burn that anti-itch lotions (like Neutrogena has a good one and I use a lotion by C.O. Bigelow) also help with the pain a little bit. Also are very good for if/when you start peeling and want to take a cheese grater to your skin.

re: sunburn: to be honest, i'm not sure how scientific this is, but for a folk remedy put vinegar on it. white or cider, doesn't really matter but i think white smells better and who wouldn't want to smell like a pickle? i was out in the sun like allllll weekend two weekends ago and i turned into a tomato with a smile. i put vinegar on and it basically immediately stopped hurting and i never peeled.

Tomorrow, when it is daylight I will take some pics
Soon I will be a courier.
srsly?
No, but I certainly feel like one, and if I lived in Toronto or maybe NYC I could probably be a courier, but there is little use for bicycle couriers in Buffalo.

One trick for sunburn is to wet as Spluff says, because real moisture is the best moisturizer (H2O is a small molecule that penetrates deeply), but then to apply the lotion on top of it to trap the water in the skin for a longer period of time before you have to redo it all.

Paul, sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the state of mind that makes a person vulnerable to the scam in the first place is also what makes it difficult to break the spell. In my uncle's case, he basically lost his retirement nest egg in the stock market, and is in that "just one big score will fix everything" frame of mind. He's visiting my mother while he tries to recover from that, a recent divorce (the money issues were the cause) and having to sell his dream home to cover other bad deals (which we're learning were probably also scams...).

The "good" news is that he has no more money to give these people, so unless somebody gives or lends it to him, they're pumping a dry well.

I just have to comment with morbid pride my spy technique for learning the details of the scam from his e-mails. No, it wasn't a keylogger or software recorder of some kind. It's a toy spyglass that I use to look over his shoulder at the screen from the other side of the house.

Take the job if they offer it. TAKE IT. TAKE IT TWICE.

I am really quite tired and all I have done today is wander into town, drink some milkshake, chat to some prospective students about how awesome my college is, read A Room of One's Own, wander to another college to get my bike, eat some Subway, and cycle back to my room. But I am as wiped out as if I had done three hours of ice training and a full day of lectures. Damn this oppressive summer heat! Bring back a light drizzle and a depressing cloud cover!

Jens, talk to your friends, don't wait for them to contact you!

Also yeah, dad threatened to pull the school fundings for me too (which woould have ment him not giving me $15 386/£10 287 all together over the course of four years, money that would seriously help on my student loans) if I didn't postpone the tattoo till October to take time to think about it more. I'd already booked an appointment though, and I managed to convince him that I have actually thought long and hard about it (seriously, I've wanted a tattoo since I was 16, I just never took one up until now because I didn't know what I wanted), and that I thought it was sad that he didn't trust my ability to decide for myself, so I'm getting the tattoo and the money anyway! Hooray for having a dad who occasionally acts weird, but can understand that sometimes it's just a little too unfair. Rich parents: don't threaten your poor kids with money matters, it's not nice!

In other news: It looks like I finally found a place to live in Glasgow! And not just a shitty student place, this place. I mean, the bedroom is the size of my current flat in Oslo, and it's only £325 including all utilities. Seriously, look at that room! I'm discussing how to pay the deposit with the guy who lives there, so seems like this is it. Hooray!

It is amazing how much cheaper Glasgow is than Edinburgh. For 325 I have a 4 by 3 meter room, without utilities included, and in the student area of town.

I guess that is another plus for Glasgow in the never ending 'which one is better' game.

Guys! I won a Janelle Monae album! From a local record store! They had a contest where in 25 words or less you said why she is awesome and I said "Because she is black, and female, and did an r&b album with a sci-fi theme." And I won! But for serious, woo for breaking all kinds of stereotypes in one album.

(I think I also won because I later posted that she is going to be here in October with Of Montreal and it'll be a really good show and that everyone should go)

Man I know it is not healthy but I love biking 20k before breakfast and then coming home to eat steak and chips and drink beer.
I mean I try not to do it often but I really love that hungry feeling from riding on an empty stomach and then coming home and filling it with a steak.
I mean I just ate a pound of cow and I feel great.
Man it is a nice day today.

Also the more time I spend outside in summer the more I want to take off all of my clothes. I am pretty sure there aren't any naked beaches in this province but I will look into it.

Fuckin' summer, fuckin' A.

our project got mentioned on wired.com

sweet!

http://www.wired.com/beyond_the_beyond/2010/06/augmented-reality-bp-logo-hack/

Joseph Hocking, my boyfriend says "thats going to be a big deal" about your project. Thats awesome that you guys are in wired, btws! Congrats!

Guys, two questions.

1. How do you learn to play an instrument/song?
2. What should I learn to play next?

I've been playing my ukulele, and practicing a lot, and I feel like I'm alright at some songs, but i also feel like I've hit a wall. I'm stuck on these two songs. I keep playing them and playing them, but I don't feel like I can get the tempo right on either of them, or the strumming and it's been kind of difficult, and I'm getting frustrated.  Advice?

Maybe I should post this in the music forum, but I feel like I'd get laughed out of there for playing a magical ukulele.

practice practice practice.

Maybe seperate the two things you're having trouble with.

Namely:

1. fingering- try just moving from chord to chord without worrying about strumming.
2. strumming- try strumming consistently without worrying about moving from chord to chord.

Try them separately until you can do them smooth and then put them together and see if it helps. Once you aren't stumbling over the chord changes, tempo should become much easier. Also, strumming is in the wrist. And rethink how you're holding your pick (if you're using one) or use one (if you're not). Additionally, examine how you're holding the uke. If you're holding it wrong, it will FUCK YOUR SHIT UP.

That is pretty ingenious. Until recently I've been writing off AR stuff as pretty gimicky (which it kind of is!) but then I saw StreetMuseum and have since spent the last month desperately resisting temptation to buy an iPhone just so I can play with it.

Quote
"Now, experiments start with a question. What do you want to know?"

I thought about it for a few seconds. "I think the dog is cool," I said, motioning toward Brownie, our five-year-old chocolate Lab mix.

"What? What the hell does that mean? That's not a fucking question."

"What if I said: Do people think the dog is cool?"

"Jesus fucking Christ," he said, rubbing his temples.

wow. So I was sitting here playing with my ukulele, practising the shit out of some Belle And Sebastian, and I pause for a minute, and moved the uke in such a way that one of the tuning pegs was pushing into my chest, which at the time hurt a little, but was more awkward than anything else. My chest is super sunburned. Anyway, so when I moved the ukulele, I got instantly dizzy and my chest super hurt. I feel really nausea right now. wth.

370v tingles like a mother fucker.  I would go so far as to say it straightens out the short and curlies, know-what-I-mean?

At least my A/C works though, and I didn't have to pay anyone else to fix it.

Please go to this page and vote for my project:
http://www.augmented-reality.net/

This is simply a news site about augmented reality projects, and the votes are to determine which popular projects to float to the front page. Just scroll down a bit to the BP logo app and then click the vote button. Thanks!
