I stupidly want to do honours.

It was a hell of a lot of work but my honours year was without question the best, most satisfying, and most rewarding year of my degree. Go for it.

Bleh, got fired today since they found someone who can work more hours/all year long. It's only a month more till I to back to university and after this job (which was horrible anyway) I don't wanna look for work, plus I don't think anyone is hiring anyway. 4 weeks of frugality begin now

i also love being petty

When it has to do with a guitar I've lent out to a friend so they can record, which I need back by a certain time for a gig this week so that I can make money so I can eat, and when they try to change the deal on me, I wouldn't call it petty. I'd call it "Oh fuck I am hungry and looking for work and this is the best I can do to ensure I don't lose any more weight than I already have."

Done judging yet?

Sorry for your loss, SWM.  Were those ears a breed standard, just him (/her?) being kinky, or the result of some trauma (aka fight)?

not sure about the ears. I found him in the street when he was only a couple of weeks old and they were like that, with no scars or scabs or anything. The ladies at the vet said they'd never seen ears quite like his.

Sorry Paul, that was not intentional at all! I guess the others were easier to think of since they had all posted about it more recently. Anyway, my next pet is going to be a turtle or a parrot, seeing how they'll probably outlive me. I don't even want to think about that my cat will die before me. Yeah, the world keeps on turning, but sometimes it's just too sad.

Yeah, it's always very sad but...so it goes, as one of my heroes, Kurt Vonnegut, would have said.

My roomates and I are planning on getting a kitten as soon as we can find one so that'll be good. I feel like a need a cat in my life; it's just one of those things.
Plus, we have a shitload of mice that need killing pronto and these modern mice seem to outsmart all the traps we use. They're evolving. :-o

I have made some Important Life Decisions recently:
- I am going to a different uni than I originally planned. (Still for Art Ed though.) I am now no longer worried about finances and that makes me happy.
- I am going to have to get a new job, or two. An old job really wants me back and I have applied to a second one. Hopefully I'll have both by September when school starts. This means I will be quitting my current job, which has turned into a pile of dramatic nonsense anyways. I've been here two years, it's time for something else. (Also it doesn't have flexible hours, which I'll need.)
- I am moving in with two of my friends in September. Their current roommate is staying until his current job is over and then I'll be taking his place. I just need to decide whether or not I'm taking my cat with me and also how to tell my mom (both about moving and the cat).

This thread knows just how wonderful and life-changing kitties can be. I know what it's like to decide to leave an animal behind to be cared for by others. I've had to do it twice, and it sucks. Keep the kitty, you won't regret it for a second.

The only reason I'm considering leaving the kitty is because my mom would be lonely due to lack of other kitty. (The one who died in April.) :( But Parker is a goofball and I'd miss him severely! He is the bestest cat. Maybe I'll just get my mom a kitty before I leave. Yes. There is a good solution.

The other reason I am afraid to take him is he tries to escape the house constantly and I am worried about him escaping an apartment building that's on a busy street. Also one of my future roomies is allergic to cats, though she doesn't mind if I bring him. But how could I leave this behind:

Also: SWM, I'm sorry about your kitty. He was a cutie.

SWM, that is the suckiest thing. I'm sorry.

The apartment I'm in doesn't allow animals, but the one I'm moving to will let me take my kitty. I miss my Montecore!

(he misses me, too)

Daerht Glob,

Today at my job, I saw a man who looked exactly like Benjamin Franklin.
I saw a wrinkled old redneck with a greasy snaketail and leathery skin go by. He had a unicorn tattoo. (Must work for the pound)
I saw a three-year-old child. I waved to him. He looked at me thoughtfully, and gave me the finger. Oh, children.

Idunno about SWM's cat, but the second image in the article looks almost exactly like my old friend's cat. Her name is Dot but is often referred to by n00bs as "Ears" because of her distinctive ears.

They've been wondering what the fuck's up with her ears ever since she was little, as they started out all normal-like and folded over one week. Just one after the other. Crazy! I'll see if they think this is what's up.

linds, if you're worried about the safety of the cat and one of your future flatmates is allergic to cats then the best thing would be to leave it.  It may work out for the best.

all of my friends are getting married. it is ridiculous. as in, between may and december of 2010 (a span of 7 months) i will have attended eleven weddings. ELEVEN! i am happy for them and all, but i am so dang tired of having to travel EVERY weekend. i've lived here a month and a half and i've stayed here on a weekend only once. after work today i'm heading straight off for another wedding weekend, but next weekend i am going to hole up in my apartment and be gloriously, blissfully ALONE.

I have not slept for more than 3 hours at a time in about a month now. I will get home from work between 12 and 2am, fall asleep around 3, and 5.30 rolls around and I am up again until 7.30 or 8 oclock, and get another few hours to be up for 10.30-11. It has been a combination of anxiety and quitting smoking, both of which are compounded by this lack of rest. I have even tried drinking over the last week or so (I am by all rights a recovered alcoholic, though I know how to keep it to a few drinks now) and all that has led up to is waking up at 5.30am except that I am drunk and really upset by the fact I still cannot sleep. I am going to consider the opinion of a doctor of some variety soon if I can't sort this out.

On the flip side of things, my idiot drunk boss was fired today and now I am a realistic choice to get manager before too much longer. That was a matter of time but it happened surprisingly sooner than I had expected.

Dear guys,

My buddies took me out to one of my favorite bars in order to help me stop feeling like shit over my breakup, and while we were standing outside with some of the other regulars, I noticed that the band inside sounded really familiar! I asked around who it was, hoping I'd hear them answer "Sight & Sound", because that band is one of the best acts Livermore has to offer. Nobody had any idea.

So I tried to walk inside and get a closer look. That joint was fucking PACKED! I had no idea what was going on. But I saw some people I went to high school with back when I went to school here, which was nice. Hadn't seen them in seven years! So we caught up.

I eventually remembered what I'd come inside to do, and it turns out that not only was it the band I thought it was, but the electric mandolin player is getting married on Saturday! So I offered him my best wishes, made a song request, and listened to them as they performed the only palatable version of "Free Falling" I've yet heard (they pretty much replace every verb with "fuck". As in, "She fucks hooooorses, and her boyfriend too." Fucking grade A. Apparently they wouldn't mind another guitarist, so I gave them my card and sat down and continued to enjoy the show.

tl;dr my friends helped me feel better last night and I had a really great time!

Love,
Me!

Man one of the things that has been stressing me out is that I really want to go to Sappyfest in Sackville the weekend after this, but I was scheduled to work and couldn't find anyone to cover my shifts because that is hard when people are already working the maximum allowable number of days in a row. Today, the week after that weekend's schedule came out, and while I was expecting to work Sunday & Monday of that week, I have them off, so I'll have time to bike back from New Brunswick, and I mentioned this all to my manager who just said not to come in and he'd talk to workforce about it because I haven't called in sick yet (there is an epidemic of something amongst call centre employees living on a beautiful island during a beautiful summer) so I am good to go for Sappyfest and it is going to rock!

Listening to music real loud because I can't stand watching rugby with family. Hell I can hardly watch rugby at all with how South Africa have been playing recently but I don't need the screaming at the TV or the constant "don't do that, do this" that's based in a fundamental misunderstanding of the game. I also can't watch games played in Brisbane because the Queensland crowds just make me hate being Australian. Oh and the commentators on Foxtel are just terrible and the producer keeps choosing shots so that I can't see what's going on away from the ball. I love rugby but I hate all this.

I keep forgetting how awesome Terminator is. Watching it while eating pizza is pretty much the best option for my Saturday night. I've been watching those 10 minute youtube videos of Arnold Schwarzeneggar one-liners and I really just need to buy most of the dudes films (Jingle All The Way can fuck off). Honestly, the man is the greatest actor of our age. Sadly I cannot buy said films until at least next pay day. I just dropped $300 on more comic books, mainly reference material for my tattoos, which was basically all my fun money for the rest of this fortnight.

True story: I have never watched the Terminator

Another true fact: I just got busted for riding on the sidewalk with my bike. The police explained the charge as "there's a lot of drunk people and old granny's that walk here, you might surprise them".

Seriously?

Well, what if you biked down the street screaming at the top of your lungs? You wouldn't catch anyone by surprise that way!

Dear Blig,

Saw a man totally rockin' a Fu Manchu down to his stomach today. That'll be all.

(there was supposed to be this rant but fuck me I am so tired after working two eight hour shifts on four hours sleep in a day)

Edit: Oh, and I heard this tidbit of conversation as someone passed by earlier:

"Yeah, I was 130 when I was born, and I gained 200 pounds in a year and I didn't eat once."

No idea.

HOLY CRAP I SAW NEIL GAIMAN AND AMANDA PALMER WALKING TROUGH TIMES SQUARE LAST NIGHT

I didn't talk to them or anything because they were quite obviously just out on a date and I didn't wanna disturb 'em, and also I've got a weird thing about meeting heroes. She was wearing a very short and sparkly dress and was totally hot and he was wearing black leather jacket, black shirt and black pants (aka standard Gaiman uniform) and I'm pretty sure they'd just been to a show on Broadway. I'm pretty sure I actually squealed. They were the first celebrities I have seen in NYC and they just happened to be relevant to my interests, fancy that!

Also I think I may have seen Dr. Know from the Bad Brains today as well but I'm not sure. Do they even still live in NY?

Other things I have done in NY (in no particular order)

- Bought a '99 Jeep Cherokee (really! It is big and red and scary and hopefully it will not break down on us)
- Slept in that car last night (there was a bit of a SNAFU with accommodation)
- Met, hung out with, and have now moved in with Gene (Ballard) for the rest of the week until NYCon. I'm on his couch right now, using all of his wireless!
- Got caught in a gigantic thunderstorm that more or less appeared out of nowhere while we were in Central Park and had to run for our lives
- Took shelter from said storm by going to Hooters (Hooters sucks guys! The wings aren't even good. What the fuck)
- Ate the most unhealthy food, all of the time
- Oh yeah, we went to White Castle. That was amazing. I would totally eat at White Castle any time, drunk or stoned or sober. It is so good. And also we had the best White Castle experience because while we were in there two greasy skanks with pot-bellies hanging out over their lycra capris were having an extremely loud conversation about god-knows-what and just generally being exactly the kind of people you would expect to find in a White Castle.
- Got lost, like, a bunch of times.

I have never been to Hooter's (got invited on Thursday and refused) and even I know this. It only exists because there's girls running around in Daisy Duke shorts and skintight tank tops. Once the aesthetic part of the whole thing is taken care of, the kitchen don't give a damn 'bout no wings.

When I was in NYC I missed out on a gallery opening where the exhibition was curated by Shaquille O'Neal. That's the closest I got to seeing a celebrity!

Really mad about missing out on that though, it would have been amazing.

Because I didn't know about it until the day after! If I had known before of course I would have gone! I blame my professor, he knew all along and forgot to tell us.

I didn't bump into any celebs while in NYC recently; on the other hand, I did once find myself coming out of a ballet in London (at the Coliseum) alongside NYC's very own Mayor Giuliani (well, alongside his minders, really).

Dovey I feel like the Cherokee is a good purchase. I think a friend who had one complained about repairs so hopefully that is not the case, but aside from that it is a decent vehicle with space and the capacity to deal with winter in Canada.

So there was a party at my house last night, for my, my flatmates and our good friend's birthdays. The party was mostly good with the exception of this one small group of people who seem to thrive on insane drama constantly in their lives.

Basically, there was a guy and a lady who used to be married but she cheated on him and they're now divorced. So they were both there, which is normally fine if somewhat uncomfortable. I like the guy somewhat and really intensely dislike his ex.
Except he showed up with his new girlfriend. Who's out on bail for violent assault. Who then proceeded to abuse and harang the ex-wife. And then attack and attempt to tear her hair out. Which is totally fucked. So they storm out and I attempt to herd the ex-wife back into the house away from the lunatic girlfriend.

Once it's calmed down somewhat I go down to the street to ask the guy and his gf not to come back as I don't want violence or drama in my house. So he then proceeds to be totally offended "Fuck you man, you know what's happened between us, I thought we were fucking friends man fuck you..." etc etc. And the psychotic gf is the same. Fuck her, I don't care what a stranger thinks and I'm not going to put up with bullshit in my house. I apologise to him and tell them to go for half an hour and not to start anything when they come back. Shit's pretty tense for the rest of the evening and I don't talk to them again.

Frankly I don't give a fuck if I lose his "friendship" over this but am I out of line to tell them to leave? I don't think so. He was being responsible and trying to calm her down and drag her off the ex but if he brought her I can't just ask her to leave. I'm so glad I live in a household that's drama free. Frankly he's pretty thick and not really someone I would socialise with if not for the circle of friends I move in.

Fuck I hate stupid people who start stupid dramas over minor grievances.
