Faye has a reputation to live down
Yeah, but that was 600 strips ago. She's gotten much better, and she still didn't nail Marigold with anything significant in the time frame Angus is asking about. It'd make more sense to me if she said ,"actually, Faye wasn't so bad. Dora going off on me about her website was kind of weird, though. But then she was all hugs and apologies  :?."

That would require more social awareness than Marigold actually possesses.  She's more likely to take Dora's comments as a fair critique and be hurt by them instead of realizing they were an irrational reaction - an irrational reaction to an irrational expectation that she's good enough at a hobby to impress Marigold, who writes code for a living and probably majored in computer science.

You know...comparing Dora in that comic to today's comic, it seems she's gotten a bit...frumpy. I don't know if it's the hair, the clothes, the make-up or what, but she definitely seems more frumpy.

Dora's always been one of my least-favorite characters, but... why is she STILL hell-bitch boss?  Irrational rudeness to a customer, then yelling at Faye for it, telling Faye to hurry up when, obviously, the store's not all that busy...

Either we're getting a pregnancy arc or we're getting a CoD is going under arc.

Being a bitch, asshole, bastard, or any other general slur for 'boss' usually comes with the territory.  You're not there to make friends, you're there to make money.  Now, you can be *nice* to your employees, and still do business, but generally you can't simply be friends with them and expect situations like these not to come up.  Dora's right in what she's saying, if not the way she's saying it.  Faye's leaving during her shift.  She doesn't get paid for the time she's gone.  That's not being a hell-bitch boss, that's good management.

Granted, yelling at customers generally isn't, as you noted.  But that goes more into how Dora tends to treat people like friends in her store, rather than employees and customers.  Sigh... it's tough running your own business...

But if Dora's okay with her leaving, instead of saying "Wait till you get off" or "Can't you just call Marten or Hanners or someone, if you don't have Angus's cell number?", then she kinda forfeits the right to be a bitch about Faye leaving during the shift.  But with the body language saying "I'm pissed off" giving the tone of "I'm a martyr who just can't be bothered to deal with your shit but I expect you to NOTICE how I suffer to make your life easier"... this is bitch boss, not boss laying the facts out there: if you ain't working, you're off the clock.

I wouldn't say she forfeits it, but you're right, she should say that Faye needs to wait until her shift is over.  Alternatively, she could do it on her break, although I don't think she'd be able to go there and back within 15 or 30 minutes.  Look, Dora's always been lax on the rules.  It's not good managerial behavior, I admit.  But she's still within her rights to not pay Faye for something she could do on her own time.

So you want to goof off on company time:
  • Hint#1: when you want to goof off on company time, don't tell the boss, 'I'm bored.' This will set her off, no matter how lax she is, guaranteed.
  • Hint#2: If you have a good lie excuse, use it first. For some reason, they never work quite as well in the followup slot, especially following "I want to go dink around with my almost boyfriend."
  • Hint#3 Never tell your boss: "I want to go dink around with my almost boyfriend."

She's not that clueless, and even if she was it was still the main event that happened, so for her to not mention it at allis odd.

Too bad he missed this before the Great Speedy Edit he already did. Faye's attitude is one of the cafe's biggest selling points.
He didn't miss it. He also remembers this: http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1215
So that's another oddity. He needs to get it straight; is Faye's sass a benefit or a detriment to the cafe? He set a whole story arc around it being a benefit, but these two act as though it's a detriment- and during the time when she's been doing much less of it anyway. Which is right?

He didn't miss it. He also remembers this: http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1215

Replace that f with a g and you've got it.

There seems to be a general issue with linear thinking now. First Marigold and now Dora, staying on one track when changing gears would make more sense (Sweet, car and train metaphors.) Penguin, Tuitsuro, I think that.s the issue that you two (and I) are having problems with.

You forgot #4, though that's understandable since it didn't apply this time: Don't tell the boss you want to go dink around with their boyfriend.

Don't go, Faye! It's a trap!

OK, I'll admit I've never made tacos, but presumably the brown gunk is from the filling? Just how big is the saucepan if it's wide enough for Momo-tan to fall in? I mean, I could just about imagine her face down in my wok, but a saucepan? Or is Angus one of those people who cooks up a whole mess of stew, taco filling etc. in one go, lets it cool, and then bags meal-sized portions for freezing, and reheating later?  :-P

Too much liquid in the meat!  I've been cooking for a long time now and unless they make tacos differently in Mass.  the meat filling shouldn't splatter like that.

I'm gonna guess yes to the whole make-a-bunch-and-freeze-some-for-later thing.  Either that, or he's REALLY hungry.  Also, I'm picturing a large frying pan rather than a saucepan -- maybe "saucepan" is being used as a general term here, since using an actual saucepan would make about as much sense as using a stockpot to make stirfry (a thing I have, to my dismay, actually witnessed).

As a sidenote, those stains will never come out of that shirt.  Ay carumba.

Next up: the awkwardness level increases as Faye and Marigold watcha a shirtless Angus scrub Momo, whose tentacle "feature" is accidentally activated . . .

You know, I'd take vegetarianism more seriously if so many of the practitioners I meet (meat?) weren't so stuck up about it. Refusing to learn about a meal on the assumption that it always includes meat- even if it did, which is definitely not the case with tacos- is just willful ignorance.

Also, how sheltered are you that you've never seen (or heard of?) tacos before? They aren't exactly rocky mountain oysters.

OK, I'll admit I've never made tacos, but presumably the brown gunk is from the filling? Just how big is the saucepan if it's wide enough for Momo-tan to fall in? My grandmother makes awesome tacos, but even when cooking for 10 people there's no way she'd have enough filling in a wide enough pan for this to happen; At that point it'd be in a pot. And even if she did for some reason, it wouldn't cover them in uniform brownness- there'd be yellowish grease stains more than anything.

Meat cooks more uniformly, and quickly, in a wide, shallow pan, which makes a frying pan more suited for this.  Also, taco meat generally includes spices (ancho, cayenne, etc.) and/or hot sauce plus sometimes tomato, so it can have a reddish-brown hue.  However, I accept the limits of a webcomic's color palette and simply suspend my disbelief.

Why don't you want to know about what they make with meat? It doesn't matter what they do with the meat, be it tacos or hamburgers or steak, it means the death of an animal every time. Well, from a vegetarian's point of view...

A big pan works for 5 or 6 people, but you need a small pot when you get to larger groups- it just needs more stirring to compensate (just realized how euphemistic that sounds). But there's a big issue I just realized- unless Angus had literally just started cooking, the stuff on his face is going to hurt something fierce. Perhaps Jeph could have had Momo get knocked into (as in, the side of and knocking it over) the blender that Angus was making a chocolate smoothie in to fit the color and laack of pain better.

Hey, now, back off the veggie, you can't expect them to actually THINK.
remember, Veggie, for every animal you don't kill, I'm going to kill two.

How can I overthink this joke more?

Oh yes, Angus is wearing a white shirt.  Surely that stain will never come out, now!

Also why the hell do people allow their AnthroPC's around food?  Seriously, she's been around Pintsize for god's sake.  E-coli'd be the least of their problems.

Also also, it's fricken SAINT PATTYS DAY.  Why are they having tacos when they could have some delicious Irish fare, like mutton on a stick?  Or like, a potato.  Or a box of cereal with a leprechaun on it.  ( Hey look I avoided references to alcohol althogether!  Oh, wait, shit. )

ALSO ALSO ALSO Why are the coats just simple variations of the Marten original did Hannelore have her mother buy out every other coatmaker in existence so that her one true love would always have his favourite coat to wear huh huh uh?

ALSO FAYE LOOKS HEAVIER MAYBE SHE PREGNAUT?!  ( Is Pintsize the baby daddy? )

I thought about the pain factor, but more about Momo melting off those new little fingers in the bubbling brown goo.  She's made from some kind of plasticky-vinylish type material, no?

Faye had the advantage over us with the taco aroma cluing her in to what happened...

And you'll get that kind of mess from the pan flipping up or over after Momo's fall, projecting its contents on the hapless Angus.  Forget the shirt, how is all that coming off Momo?  Or out of her hair?  Or out of her one little outfit!

This can actully be the start of an interesting arc...

Maybe not.

Don't worry. I myself don't even have an idea what tacos are. Yeah Wikipedia is just one click away, but I'm vegetarian and sure this is just another awful meat product I don't want to know about.
<SNIP the hating on "stuck up" vegetarians>
Also, how sheltered are you that you've never seen (or heard of?) tacos before? They aren't exactly rocky mountain oysters.
Er... Sheltered? A bit of cultural myopia there, I think. Snubnose's country is listed as Germany. I have no idea how common Mexican-style food is there. Do you? It's not exactly the most common eating in Australia for that matter (Chinese is far more widespread :-D ). I only knew about tacos from Old El Paso commercials on TV before I ate them for the first time while on a business trip to Texas. Or was that fajitas? It was the first time I had eaten Mexican food anyway.

You're vegetarian and you don't eat tacos? o.o

I'm vegan and tacos (or burritos) are like my STAPLE food. Sooo, sooo good.

take:

1 pack of flour tortillas
1 can of black beans
1 small can of tomato sauce
some chili powder, and whatever other spices you want (oregano and basil for me)
1 diced tomato
1 diced onion
1 sliced avocado
1 bottle of hot sauce.

Cook the black beans with the tomato sauce and spices in a frying pan until most of the liquid has evaporated and it's a mix of nice rich consistency (sometimes I add rice)

Then basically, on the flour tortilla, combine one heaping tablespoon of the bean mix, one tablespoon of (raw) tomato, onion, avocado, and ad a dash of hot sauce. Some lettuce can be thrown in as well. Roll it up and enjoy!  It takes all of 10 mins to prepare and is YUM. For tacos, you can also just use refried beans and save yourself the trouble of making a bean mixture.

If you're not vegan you can also add cheese.

Gyaah! Put it away, hurry, before it starts to... it's too late run!

More common than you think (and yes, I did see that he was German), but thanks for the accusation of myopia: I only spent 3 months in Germany (Bremen specifically, with the family of an exchange student that stayed with me for a year (who knew the cuisine before he stayed with us (hey English teachers, what do you think of nested parentheses?))). I never actually ate at a Mexican restaurant there because there was no point, but I did see several. Google map of mexican restaurants in Germany.

And thanks for snipping the part inconvenient to your accusation of myopia; you know, the part where I said

Refusing to learn about a meal on the assumption that it always includes meat- even if it did, which is definitely not the case with tacos- is just willful ignorance.
As in, making assumptions and refusing to inform himself  is what was annoying to me, not his vegetarianism. I have friends, good friends, and an uncle that are vegetarian and are nice- but far too many that I meat are stuck up and self righteous about their choice, just like Prius owners- and before you nail me on that... my mother drives a Prius. The most acceptable targets are the one you know personally.

Lesbian? No. She's robo-curious. Or maybe bi-technosexual.

Pictures and recipes and niceness.
...Or maybe we all should have done this first. Bravo to you JackFaerie, for doing what we did not, preferring instead to squabble. I bow before your superior skills at conflict avoidance.

Taco 'juice,' in fact any sort of liquid, always goes fifteen times as far as it should be able to based on 'observed' volume* when it hits the floor, cabinet, countertop, or clothing. The real problem is Jeph hasn't shown the gradiant of stains.

Pintsize has been a bad influence on Faye.
No kidding. But I bet Faye was also the type of girl who stripped her barbie dolls, both sexes, 'naked'** first chance she got.
(Looking at the above statement, I have no clear idea what it means, but it's never stopped me before, so why should it now?)

As for the alt script strip (say that seven times fast), I have only one thing to say (summons up best 'Chairman' Takeshi Kaga inpersonation): Giant Eel!

They aren't exactly rocky mountain oysters.
Trust me, when if it comes to food, nothing, and I do mean nothing, is exactly like a rocky mountain oyster. It ain't often you (not me, thank you) can eat something and then see the 'donor' walking by in the pasture. Waste not want not can be carried too far.

*Christ, it didn't look like that much!
**I'm not sure something so manikin-like can actually be nude.
