I suppose I could tolerate straight edge bands if they didn't sing about straight edge, but that's not what I've ever encountered. And it ain't like the bands are good enough for you to ignore lyrical foibles like that, like I do with all the crust bands I like that support the ALF.
Actually come to think of it I probably find it easier to listen to nazis than straight-edge bands.

No sex was never much of a thing. Even Mackaye didn't literally mean "don't fuck", he just thought spending huge amounts of your time and effort just trying to get laid and nothing else was a bit of a waste of time. He didn't have a problem with sex itself, and nor do most edge bands. Limp Wrist did after all write Cruisin' At The Show and We Started This Band To Get Dates (not to mention including pictures of dudes fucking in their records to mess with the straights), and when R.A.M.B.O. were asked about casual sex they said "nothing's more fun than making one of your friend's make funny noises." Straight edge is just about no drugs really. And really, what the hell is the problem with people not drinking and saying it's alright not to drink? It's no more obnoxious to say you enjoy not drinking than to write a song about how you do. Not that a lot of edge bands do, an awful lot are more likely to write songs about how self-righteous, Christian or pro-life edgers should fuck off than how being edge is awesome or anything. How many black metal bands have got songs about how much they hate NSBM?
And it wasn't a rebellion against rebellion. When it started you had seriously druggy punk scenes all over the place which were getting fucked because everyone had too many drug problems, and all the shitty sexist, homophobic mainstream bands would go on about how much drinking and drugs they did. Being drug free seems like an understandable reaction to that.
I think your basic problem with edge bands is that you don't really like thrashcore, youth crew and metalcore and that's what most edge bands play.
