It was directed by Joe Carnahan, who showed immense promise with Narc before becoming a walking punchline with Smoking Aces and more or less derailing his career as a serious filmmaker (he was going to make a White Jazz movie with George Clooney but the stink of SA chased that away).

The guy is basically a Troy Duffy without the sass mouth.

Aw man Smoking Aces weren't nothin to write dissertations on but as far as hyper-stylized pop film-making goes, it was better than most.

I love Smokin Aces!

Then again, I am a known liker of bad movies so take that with a grain of salt, I guess.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.

The A-Team has easily been the best popcorn film of the entire summer, I went with a couple friends and we were all impressed.

The action was completely over-the-top, it never slipped too far into melodrama, it was fully self-aware.  There were a couple times when I was slightly worried because it seemed like they were going to make it slip into the "oh hey, we're an action movie but we're going to pretend to have characters that aren't one dimensional." But they never only ever skimmed the surface of that pond.

After being heavily disappointed with Kick-Ass, Robin Hood, and Prince of Persia I was definitely not expecting to have as much fun at the A-Team as I did.

The post above me sums it up quite well.  The worst possible thing the film could have done was take itself seriously, but there was no point I saw in which it did so.  It was clearly written by someone who understands that with a film like this, trying to make anything deep or complex is only going to muddle things up, as the audience's main goal is just to have fun and enjoy a silly action flick, which is all it did, and it did it well.  Highly recommended.
