as i read it, she is blushing over marten's assessment, but not over steve's. this increased reaction could be seen to suggest that that his opinion carries more weight with her than steve's. this is possible reason for steve to be concerned, though nothing he can really blame marten for.

The middle word's upper half is in the second panel, and doesn't look like "will" or even "WILL Be". It doesn't look like anything else that comes to mind, either... "UEU Be"?
