I just can't stop seeing Marten having two left arms in panel three: one hanging down and showing beyond his back, and the other going to Cosette's back to support her as she drops her crutch.

That is a "Fridge Logic" moment.
Truth is, the one behind his back is actually the material from the hoodie, I would reckon. (Remember, Marten's a bit on the skinny side, and that hoodie is probably a bit big on him...)
