Poll

If Coffee of Doom really is the cure to ‘bachelor’ status, who needs to be the next hire?

Tai: Sure the CoD magic works for traditional couples (okay, Angus and Faye are stretching it), but can it find commitment for Tai?
Marigold: A challenge—a mighty, mighty challenge!
Sven: If it sticks, a miracle!
Dale: Unknown quantity; still, the fact that’s he’s single and intrigued with MG says, well, not much, really.
Hannermom: It’s fresh meat time, baby!
Jimbo: Actually, this might make the joint burn down.

With all that innuendo, no wonder her butt's sore.

Innuendo, and out the other...

Fixed (his early stuff was pretty serious—I mean, The Poseidon Adventure [1972] is only funny for those with a select sense of humor.
What about "Forbidden Planet", the movie Lost in Space and Star Trek have been ripping off for decades? It's hard to watch, because Nielsen being serious looks so much like his parody of being serious!
Fixed. Except Star Trek TOS also rips off  The Enemy Below.
As for Nielsen, that's part of the shtick. I don't think he'd have been nearly so successful at comedy, especially in Airplane! and perhaps Police Squad and derivatives (namely, the Naked Gun series) if he hadn't made a reputation as a serious actor beforehand and approached the comedy roles in much the same way. To me, Nielsen's always funniest when he's perfectly serious and the comedy flows from the situation more than when he's purposefully doing slapstick. Thus Frank Drebin is funnier than Father Mayii, but less so than Dr. Rumack.

Last Night's poll: What's your favorite Cthulhu Cookie product? note: prolonging gorging upon Cthulhu Cookies products may or may not result in enhanced senses, occult powers, and/or enhanced physical abilities but will result in increased paranoia and, eventually, incurable insanity. Chuck D. Ward, Mngr.

Byatis Berkeley Bearded Biscotti     - 1 (3.4%)
Cthulhu's Great Old Chocolate Chip Cookies    - 11 (37.9%)
Daddy Dagon's Snickerdoodles    - 4 (13.8%)
Hastur's Royal Lemon Thins    - 2 (6.9%)
Gol-goroth's Triple Fudge Experiences    - 3 (10.3%)
Mama Hydra's Peanutbutter Pleasers    - 3 (10.3%)
Summanus's Sumptuous Shortbread Fingers    - 2 (6.9%)
Zushakon's Black and White Delights    - 3 (10.3%)

So over a third of you want to be a slave of the great priest of the old ones eat chocolate chip cookies. And one person either loves alliteration or craves biscotti—or perhaps both, excessive wretch. Mayhap that one will soon rue these hedonistic ways!

That's not an OMGWTF size coffee, thats like a medium at best.

Also, Dora, Hanners knows things about Marten that he himself doesn't even know.

Yeah, but wired with what?  Cameras or c4?  Or possibly both?

I'm not entirely sure what Faye is doing, asking Marigold about Angus's fetishes.  It's fairly obvious she wouldn't know.  Plus it'd be Hannelore-brand creepy if she did.

The answer's easy; she watched them move in through the spy-holes she has drilled through the ceiling of their apartment.

Unbeknownst to Faye, Marten, or the real-estate agent, this is why the last occupants moved out.

I mean, she helped her move in, after all...

And she's been over often enough.  If simple curiosity couldn't keep her out of Dora's party favor box, what's to keep her from peeking into any other storage unit?

Coffee size; Large, but not extra.  About 24 oz?  Definitely less than a quart...

Nah, I look at those cups all day long.  Her hands make it look like 20 oz at the most, 16 oz at the least.  I didn't think it was unusually large.

How 'bout closet full of cat skulls on doll parts?  ^_^  I really like the layout, perspective, and facial expressions/body language in panel one -- it says so much with almost no dialog.

Also, I now want to see a Super Big Gulp-sized coffee cup or mug -- or even a watercooler-sized one that comes with its own rolling cart!  I mean, this is the Coffee of Doom shop . . .

It's early yet; they just erased yesterday's specials, and haven't put up today's.  Faye hasn't even finished her coffee, and baristas are their own first customers!

I love coffee - the taste, the smell, the little oil slick on top - but due to a medical condition, I am a tea-totaller.  Gotta get my caffeine somehow!

For the other players, yes, yes it is. Maybe this is Marigold's revenge on Dale's group, the guys who fawned over the other girl player, etc.

I agree that the coffee needs to be at least half again bigger to reach OMGWTF proportions. Unless, of course, Jeph feels it's too small.

And screw the anthropc chassis; Marten's had much stranger things  in his closet.

So it's not canon. Sosumi. Besides, I enjoy Steve's appearance there on quite a few levels.

Something that really struck me about today's (soon to be yesterday's strip is that Faye tries to thank Marigold not by simply thanking her, not by the Gunga Din approach*, nor by a silent look of respect before moving on to other things, but by trying to get Marigold to conspire with Faye against Angus. I can't figure out if this simply is the best Faye can do as far as being friendly goes (which is sort of sad) or delusions on her part (since, lesbian innuendo aside, MG's far more likely to 'side' with Angus, is she not?).

Meanwhile, I wish the new poll would go up. I've been…

Hold on, that's me, isn't it? Sigh Prepare for something half-assed. Okay, more half-assed than usual.

Yesterday's Poll results: If word gets around abut Angus’s head games with Hanners, next thing you know, we’ll see:

Dale using it to extort cooperation from Marigold via his WoW organization Werve (We Exploit Rumors Vilely and Excessively)    - 1 (3.4%)
Hanners deciding Angus has outlived his usefulness.    - 6 (20.7%)
Dora mentioning her daydream of taking on four guys and ‘winning.’    - 3 (10.3%)
Tai countering with her own ‘victory’: she once ‘overcame’ seven with one lick.    - 6 (20.7%)
Faye punches Angus for no particular reason. (Granted, we’ll probably see this anyway)    - 8 (27.6%)
More oblique references to Shelby (Jeph’s giant dog).    - 5 (17.2%)

So a slight majority of you favor the veritably certain. Note on Tai: She (or I) didn't say seven of what.

My wife tells me that even women who actively dislike each other will pass along warnings about creepy men. If Angus were, say, keeping whores in his closet (excuse me, pantry), then it would be normal for Faye to expect Marigirl to give her a heads up.

Back in the days of the 240, 260, and 280 Z's, they were sold in the USA under the Datsun brand. Sometime after the 280 but before the 300, Nissan dropped the 'Datsun' name and sold cars as Nissan's.

My previous post was a take-off on their advertising campaign in the mid-1980's when they dropped the Datsun brand.

Faye Whitaker, you're going to Hell. (And apparently taking Angus with you.)

And Faye's action in today's comic makes up for Dora hiring herself to be Faye's representaion to the art-buying public in a strip I'm sure someone will post a link to forthwith.

Cheers for Dora and Penelope calling Faye on her lame denial that there's something between her and Angus. "Nothing's been decided yet," my ass. Time to get out of the middle of the road, Faye, before you get squished like a grape. (I wonder if that line's in the new Karate Kid movie, which, by the way, I cannot freaking believe they remade.)

Akronnick, I can think of no more appropriate steed for a Knight Of The Dickbroom than a foul-mouthed, perpetually shouting, lust-crazed bird with a scrotum hanging from its chin and a distinctive cry of "Gobble gobble gobble".   --Tergon

i've actually heard it's pretty good. though they could have at least had the good sense to call it 'the kung fu kid'.

i get the sense that today's strip comes from jeph suddenly realizing that he has used coffee ship as the same plot device three times.

Note on Tai: She (or I) didn't say seven of what.
*gasp*. I managed to get in a "Seven of Nine, obviously" comment before Kugai did!

Am I a terrible person for thinking Faye's shirt would be much funnier if it said "PROBLEM SOLVERS" instead?

Especially setting it in CHINA, and the kid learns kung-fu. But hey, no difference, right?

Faye's "refurbished Starbucks employees" line made me giggle. I have a vision of a warehouse somewhere with ex-Starbucks being trained with cattle-prods. "This is coffee, but this" <zap> <zap> <aieeeee!> "is untreated sewage. See the difference now?"

Is forthwith a preposition?
No.

Am I a terrible person for thinking Faye's shirt would be much funnier if it said "PROBLEM SOLVERS" instead?

+1 (or should that be +2?)

Is forthwith a preposition?

And Faye's action in today's comic makes up for Dora hiring herself to be Faye's representaion to the art-buying public in a strip I'm sure someone will post a link to forthwith.

You mean this strip.
