a guy she's clearly not attracted to
Denial is always entertaining to watch.
Odd. As Shadic points out, Faye says
otherwise.
I think you're confusing Faye's level of attraction to Angus with her neurosis about relationships. Here's the thing. I'm firmly convinced that, for all the carrying on she did later, Faye started a relationship (sort of) with Sven because she was on some level firmly convinced it would go nowhere, and was thus 'safe' (i.e. she was fairly sure of the outcome). I really wonder if the problem there wasn't that things didn't combust within a week or two.
On the other hand, Faye foresees no such obvious train-wreck in the future with Angus (but anticipates many concealed ones), which scares the bejesus out of her, hence her stalls—Faye's gotten to the point where she's not ready to instantly dismiss Angus and keep herself safe, but she's not prepared to go play in what she clearly sees as the relationship highway, thereby giving the loss-truck another chance to try to mow her down (her dad was it's first attempt). Thus, all the stalling and bullshit. In short, Faye's running like mad to stand still. Mostly, anyway. She's made a little progress—can she make more without taking her usual steps back first? (As I recall, she's due some).
