The moles are there, see panel 1.  They're on the other side of her face. 

And no, no sexification, but definitely ramping up the D'AAAAWWW level in the next-to-last panel.

I personally thought she looked cuter before.  But then again, that's probably mostly cause I tended to forget she had bad acne and I figured all the dots were freckles instead.

As to Marigold's blemishes, zits come and go -- she may be at a point where her face has cleared up a bit, either because she's cleaning herself better or due to other factors.  And yes, it's possible that Jeph just forgot.  The dude's sick, let's give him a break.

Seems to be a popular theme. From Planet Karen, which was one of my favourite webcomics, until it seemed to become moribund. But on visiting the site to check the archives just now, I found it had updated! My day is a little brighter!

It's not even that, "emotional age" is a pretty fluid thing.  She let herself be caught up in a fantsy.  And, like leaving a really good movie or putting down a really good book, reality's right there where you left it.  That can be a good thing, sometimes.
