That was pretty standard on most of the dress pants I've owned. Except some have the button on the inside and then a slide in clip sort of deal so that you don't have a button on the outside.

Yeah, my boyfriend's dress pants have the clip. But I have a lot of clothes like that. I think its fairly common, and I'm not sure how its a problem.

My work pants at McDonald's were like that. I thought it was so that when one of the buttons inevitably fell off due to the relatively high activity levels in that workplace, you would have the other to serve as a backup. I didn't realize until considerably later that they were just poorly made, shitty pieces of clothing.
