Duke Nukem: Forever is Official

J:
i'd say it's the sense of humor that makes the duke. will this game be making fun of current genre conventions in action games and films? along with the wider popculture? will it take a 'nostalgic' route as an overexadurated throwback to the games of the 90s?

i like this:

--- Quote from: some guy on the escapist forum ---ALWAYS BET ON THE DUKE!

I've never lost faith, even have an idea of how the start of the game would be:

Duke Nukem for 1 reason another is a shell of his former self, and is now working a standard day job as an office drone, when he gets a call from his estranged daughter (a teeny bit yahtzee inspired here) in the babe resistance that they need his help.

Duke Nukem dusts off his gun for old times sake and the introductory level plays like a standard cover shooter, duke has to hide behind a wall to regain hp, moves around in a realistic (slow, has to press shift to sprint) etc..
Just like the standard fps nowadays really, and the enemies fight in a similar manner.
Also the level would be shades of grey and brown.

The goal of the level would be to retake duke's sunglasses, as soon as he puts them up the duke nukem music starts playing, the wisecracks starts flowing, the level colors suddenly become more varied and what was once the button to hide behind cover is now the kick button to destroy said cover. Also his hp bar shows up again and he moves around in the old skol gliding way.
Standard tutorial shows up to explain these functions but Duke punches them away, proceeding to go on an old skol killing spree with enemies desperately trying to find cover and fight in a "realistic fps" style, which Duke neutralizes with his old skol ways.

A man can dream :)

Boro_Bandito:
Oh that Duke and his old skol ways.

bicostp:
Apparently Gearbox now outright owns the Duke Nukem intellectual property:

Good? Bad? Meh? Time will tell.

Ozymandias:
Well, Gearbox makes games. 3D Realms doesn't. So: GOOD.

KvP:
Speaking of not making games, Aliens: Colonial Marines made a surprise appearance at PAX, albeit a brief one.
