Duke Nukem: Forever is Official

<< < (6/13) > >>

Storm Rider:
The big question for me is, with Gearbox owning the Duke Nukem IP, what the fuck is George Broussard and the rest of 3D Realms doing? It's not like they announced this as they were shutting down or anything, nominally people are still getting paid to make video games there.

KvP:
The article that I read (can't seem to remember where it was posted... probably Kotaku, but I can't be bothered to track it down) indicated that DNF work continued as basically a hobby for ex-3D Realms guys post-cancellation, and they reached out to Gearbox and it was all taken care of. Broussard is working on the game, at least. As for the other developers, I have no idea, but this isn't the first time a game would be wrenched from a studio's hands.

*edit - here's the article.

kemon:
i got to play this at pax and went to the gearbox panel.

i can say that the demo was fantastic to play.  i believe gearbox will make the game that people will want to play if they are fans of duke nukem.  i can also say that it will be a game that people will want to play even if they are not fans of duke nukem.  it's hilarious, the gameplay is great, it looks good graphically.

there is a story behind why gearbox picked it up.  i have no doubt that gearbox will deliver this game and it will do exceedingly well.

but now we have to find a new game to be the poster boy for vaporware.

JD:
Half Life: Episode 3

Ozymandias:
Yeah, Episode 3 is going to be a whipping boy for at least two more years and that's optimistic.
