No, it's not the same.    - 13 (4.8%)
No, it's even worse.    - 22 (8.2%)
No, it means Dora's history.    - 24 (8.9%)
No, because it's going to end different.    - 17 (6.3%)
No, because there's emergency bourbon.    - 14 (5.2%)

God that was a beautiful thread..  All the Dick-Broom-Knights arrayed in their armored finery, their troll-green skin offset by all that hypocrisy chainmail, shining in the threadlight. Facing them, one pissed off administrator wrapped in leather. He caresses the handle of his hammer, 'ban', and without even seeming to attack, they are all defeated.

I wonder who did the reporting?

I wager it was at least one of the people that got upset whenever someone said they wish the breakup had happened sooner.

Aye, agreed.  Pointless argifying is one thing, but reporting over a few petty insults will only piss the mods off.  That was uncalled-for.

Dammit, this thread is to specifically not talk about that.

In other news, it's snowing here in Winnipeg. About 10 CM overnight.

I'm jealous of people who get proper snow. We just get a few inches of it, people panic and everything grinds to a halt. I want proper decent snow dammit!

When I was a kid growing up in Oklahoma, I swore I would move away from there as soon as I was able.  There was everything from deep drifting snow in the winter, to softball sized hail (I literally sat in the city cafe one morning, and watched it punch holes in cars and other things that were not covered sufficiently), to vicious thunderstorms and tornadoes, with triple digit heat in the summer with HIGH humidity, and all the way down to 60 below in the winter.

I will never live there again.

I live in the desert now.

Oklahoma is the worst. You couldn't pay me to live there. Of course, living on the MO side of Kansas City I always said I would never live in Kansas, and yet here I am.

I love Kansas City. I've always said that I would like to live other places, but I know I'll always come back here. Really nice combination of big city fun things, and small city atmosphere.

Arizona here.
I'm in the north end, and despite being on the opposite side of the country from Tornado Alley, we had tornados this year. Complete and utter bafflement of an entire state? You win this round, Nature.

Weather is currently in that lovely phase of:
Mornings: Freeze your tits off
Early Afternoon: Tits beginning to thaw
Late afternoon: Tits are demanding a bikini top in honor of deliciously warm sunshine
Evenings: Freezing again!  :psyduck:

My loving family in Phoenix, having suffered through a typical Arizona "summer" (Who am I kidding? they have two seasons, one just lasts as long as three normal seasons.) is delighted to report that the weather down south is "Fantastic!" with days in the 70s, and cool upper 50s nights.

Jerks.

Warning! While you were typ--oh wait, no, nevermind. You're good. Sorry, bad habit.

The solution here is a heated bra, obviously!

or maybe a literal kitten to snuggle to one's sweater kittens, to abuse a metaphor.

Holy Neck-bolted Fuckenstein, Batman, people were reporting posts in the WCDT?   :psyduck:  Wow.  Pity we'll never know how stupidly long the thing would have gotten.  Hopefully next week's won't get so unruly that it has to be shot in the face until dead.

And dang, Jeph even made and then locked his own behold-as-I-stab-the-forum-with-pics thread.  Truly a banner* day.

But back to the topic at hand, I'm slightly concerned that my area (mid-Atlantic USA) will get similarly significant amounts of snowfall this year as last -- three feet of snow is NOT typical around here, and we just don't have the impressive snowplow force some areas have.  That said, snow is pretty and I'd like it better if it didn't fuck up the roads and knock out our power.  Maybe it's time to buy a generator.

Carl-E, is Road Construction not a year-round phenomenon in your area?  Of course, I'm counting cones-blocking-lanes-but-no-work-being-done in that.

Yeah, I fled the WCDT around 9 or 10 CST last night, so anything could have happened between then and this morning.

So we've handled weather and cute animals. Anyone seen any good movies lately?

Oh man, I've always thought of Chicago as having a relatively pleasant summer what with the nice winds that stir up over the lake and everything. My husband is from there and jokes that the whole city is air conditioned (of course this past summer was an exception). He and his family never stop complaining about how awful Kansas City summers are.

The local joke for Chicago is that if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes.

This summer had some gawdawful warm days, but the worst was the crazy fucking rain.  Like several days straight, in June.  And July.  With nasty heat/humidity in between.  I think I saw more mosquitoes this year than during the past decade combined.

We had some great Indian summer during October, but once we crossed the November threshhold, the city suddenly remembered it was autumn.  Overnight frost, brrr... good time for blankets and kitties.

D

I'm in central Illinois, and we get the same type of weather without Lake Michigan's effects.  The one aspect of this year's weather that I have only recently become aware of is the fleas.  My father's cat was put to sleep just yesterday due to a viral infection that the vet believed was transmitted by fleas.  She was an indoor cat, but it did not help out when they live in a farm community and have a number of cats that call their garage home.  My parents have had to fumigate their home a couple of times this year due to flea infestation.

And we are now having to deal with some early cold weather.  Of course it does not help that I live in a trailer (cold floors).

Anyone seen any good movies lately?
I went to see Harry Potter 7.1 this afternoon in IMAX.  Not terrible at all.  And, given where they broke off, 7.2 is going to be a real rip-snorter.

Just went and bought HP#5 so I could catch up before going to see 7. They didn't have 6 in stock so I need to go a-searchin' and then sit down and watch everything back-to-back. Definitely going to try to see the new one on IMAX, we finally got one at a local theater.

IMHO, "not terrible at all" is an understatement. It's the best one so far and for the first time out of all the HP movies, I really felt like I was watching an adaptation of the book. Very, VERY good.

We've had snow once already.  I moved to Texas to get AWAY from the bloody stuff.  This better not be like last winter. ::grumble curse complain::

Oklahoma checking in. Land of tornadoes and winters full of ice.

It's currently 41 degrees and the high tomorrow will be in the 70s. Pretty nice...too bad it's just going to end horribly with 3 inches of ice on the ground at some point in the next few weeks. Oh well, HP tomorrow night.

A chick I know who is a huuuuuge Potter nerd was all upset and calling it epic fucking fail, but from what I've heard critics are saying it's the one where they stop having fun at Hogwarts and have to go out and do hard shit. Which is good, because that was what the damn book was all about.

Like every HP movie, tons of explication are left out or compressed, because everyone knows that stuff already and no one wants to see a 12-hour movie.  If you'd only seen the other movies and never read the books you'd be OK.  We (me, wife, 22-year-old daughter) really liked it.  Regarding "not terrible at all", I consider telling someone whether a movie is really good or not something of a spoiler, so I'll only warn you about the real dogs.

Carl-E, is Road Construction not a year-round phenomenon in your area?  Of course, I'm counting cones-blocking-lanes-but-no-work-being-done in that.

Road Construction starts soon before the first thaw when the orange cones bloom on the dividers, encroaching into the lanes a few feet at a time, until the road crews migrate in from the south.  It ends abruptly at the first signs of black ice, although some of the more hardy dividers and barrels linger on late into winter.

Of course, the turnpike is in a slightly warmer zone, and watcing a crew fill in a sinkhole in the snow is one of he few joys of driving through our lovely state!

I'm up for HP 7.1, too.  We always go watch a movie Turkey day while the bird's cooking, and that's one's the plan this year.  Me, the wife, the kids (17 and 20 now).  We've been through the whole shmeer, books and movies together.  When the first book came out, I read it to the girls, a chapter or two before bed each night.  Became a tradition, we did it with every book.  I used to do radio and theatre, so I do everyone's voices (Hagrid's a tough one, I'm a tenor).  A point of pride was how much Alan Rickman sounded like my version of Snape!
