It was more or less a question of when we'd be able to arrange to do it. My schedule's more flexible, whereas my wife's isn't.

And neko - I live out in the middle of BF Nowhere, Wisconsin. I'm 30 minutes from civilization - and even that is questionable.

I was informed that if something happened to my cat during non-office hours, I'd be able to take  her to the Central Wisconsin Veterinary Hospital - which is a good 30-33 minutes.

nekowafer:
I'm sorry. The wait has to be so difficult. Just cuddle her as much as she can take <3

John, you may recall I went through something similar with two of the oldest of our cats (16 and 17, daughter and mother) last summer.  With the difference that we couldn't afford to put them to sleep.

Watching them die was so hard.  I wish you the best, man.

A Pets Prayer

Author: Unknown

If it should be, that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then, you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
Don't let your grief stay your hand,
For this day more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many years,
What is to come can hold no fear.
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me to the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you'll see it is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Don't grieve it should be you who this thing decides to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold tears.
SMILE, FOR WE WALKED TOGETHER FOR AWHILE.

P.S. - Carl: it's "Joe."
