Poor shrimpy :(

I love that my cats want to cuddle me when I'm in bed. I got up to go take care of some things and they got up as well, and the moment I got back in bed, the joined me. I feel loved.

My kitty isn't happy with me at the moment. I had to close the door to the office, because she was getting into places she shouldn't be - and she's figured out the baby gate.

My dog is weird about opening things. The other day, "someone" left the front door open when leaving for work (the deadbolt was locked while the door was open, so it couldn't latch) and when I got home the dog was just standing there at the impenetrable barrier of the screen door that never latches. Just now, my sister was picking up some stuff from my shed so we had the gate open, so I put the dog inside. He has zero hesitation to open the sliding door to the yard if he thinks he's being left out of something, and next thing we know he's back outside and tearing off down the alley. Took a good 5 minutes to get him to stop dashing around and back into the yard.

Aww, that's a cute dog.

This was my childhood dog, Peppy (on the right, that's a deer fawn on the left):

If it seems like I haven't been posting much on here lately, it's all Casey's fault. She wants to play with her shoestring while her Daddy is sitting on the computer.

Deer fawn cuddling on a recliner with a dog... There's a story here that needs to be told!

Kisa fell off the windowsill while chittering at something (most likely a bird). It made me giggle.

A neighbor found two deer fawns along the road. Their mother had been hit by a car, so the neighbor called my dad, and he picked them up and brought them home. They were too young to be in the wild on their own, so we took care of them for a couple days before finding a place that would take them in. Oddly, I remember the exact day that picture was taken, June 6, 2004, because my ridiculous memory of trivia recalls that as the day Ronald Reagan died.

I got my puppy neutered this week. It was a hard thing to do, but, sigh, it's the responsible thing to do. Was worried about anesthesia, not so much the surgery itself. He is healing super well though! But he would have made the cutest babies. He's a mutt, but a perfect one. Beagle, Sheppard, Terrier, and who knows what else.

And once again my reference filled mind is reminded of something. A chatlog from german-bash.org to be specific. It's dark, tasteless humor though and doesn't really fit in a thread called "we love our pets", so I'll put it in a spoiler.

(click to show/hide)

Keep in mind that I absolutely love cats. I'd just keep all the stuff I really care about as far away from them as possible.

1. I don't have a soldering iron.
2. I try keeping her out of the office unsupervised. She just got into an area where I couldn't see, and chewed on the cable enough to destroy it.
3. This isn't the first time I've had a cat chew through cabling. This is why I try to keep my cat out away from the electronic stuff.

Except possibly ferrets, which a lot of states and landlords have incredibly strict laws/rules about.

Some of it is misunderstandings of the ferret's biting. There's still a lot of myth going around that ferrets will bite and attack babies and such. The big things though is that they smell and they can really easily find a quarter sized hole that goes into a wall or duct and suddenly shit's a problem.

Ferrets wouldn't be considered and animal that doesn't often need time out of their cage. They should get at the least an hour or two out per day. And they can be destructive little things. If you have questions about ferrets, I can help you out. Since you'll be in my general area I can even suggest a couple shelters, should you decide that's what you want.

Seriously though, rabbits are pretty cool. You just gotta find one that doesn't hate hands. They do exist and they rock.

Also bunny licks are the strangest but coolest thing. Kind of like cat licks, but smaller.

Honestly, I'd love to get one for my classroom (pending allergy stuff), mostly a Dwarf Hotot, Jersey Wooly (tiny angora!), or a Netherland Dwarf because tiny ones are cuuuute. Also I kinda just want a white rabbit so I can name it Harvey and also make Alice in Wonderland references.

I'll throw another rodent small, furry thing in the ring- a guinea pig. I had 2, now only have 1 (RIP Spunky) but they are fabulous little guys. Low maintenance (favorite toys are cardboard tubes...just need lots of veggies/hay/pellets and you can get that stuff for pretty cheap) and they take well to handling if you start them early. They can definitely be skittish but in the right environment they will thrive and be chipper and are always adorable. But they WILL let you know if they are in need of something- sometimes Rocko is so loud that we hear him 3 rooms away....

We gave him a bath a few days ago in the sink because he was a mess. He was having fun splashing around and sticking his head under the running water and omg so cute. We sat on the couch and I towel dried him for a little while before we put him back in his cage. He has never smelled so good!

I kept Guinea Pigs for years when I was a kid! I loved those critters a lot, the only one I didn't like of our three was Blanco, he was a little jackass, very skittish, peed and pooped every where. Speedy my first guinea pig was a goddamn saint. Loved attention and giving little licks (like bunny licks!) very chatty, liked to talk to me when I came down to feed him or just walked into the room.

We'll see what my apartment's pet standards are tomorrow.

Rats are slowly rising up the pet ranks, smart, interactive (bunnehs while cute are kinda passive) hmmm

Yes, but some apartment complexes don't like them... and I've heard they have scent issues. So I'm thinking a duo of rats (never buy single pets for social animals) might be the way to go.

Some apartment complexes have issues, sure. But does yours? Also any animal you get is going to smell. Rats are most certainly included in that. I loved my ratty boys but they were stinkers.
