resomolutions for a brand new dovey

<< < (13/22) > >>

Inlander:
I don't think I made any actual resolutions last time around, however at the start of 2010 I did make two somewhat rash declarations on Facebook which I guess is the new New Year's Resolution? They were that 2010 would be, in turn, the year of saving (money) and the year of getting serious about writing.

Let's see how that went.

1) Year of saving money:
- current bank balance: A$385
- predicted bank balance by next Wednesday: A$15.

Hmm. In my defence, there was one big mitigating circumstance: moving fucking house and deciding to live by myself. That shit's expensive! And it was forced on me, too. Not that I'm at all unhappy about how any of it turned out.

2) Year of getting serious about my writing:
- current state of writing: one 80,000 word manuscript near completion, and awaiting feedback from a literary agent; one other project which I've had on the go for a while which is hopefully nearing completion.

Okay so I haven't had anything published but 2010 wasn't necessarily about that. The main thing I achieved this year was to actually start applying myself: I started (and put aside for now) a manuscript mid-year, and I was writing around 3000 words a day on that. The first draft of manuscript I'm currently working on was written in two months at a rate of around 2000 words a day. I started treating writing like a proper job, with daily targets (which I always met!) and weekends off. I also got my name out there and met a bunch of people in the Melbourne literary scene and did some open-mic readings. So I'm going to call Year of Getting Serious About Writing an unqualified success.

This year's plan is to get a book - my third - published. Maybe even my fourth, as well, if everything goes according to plan.

lofty almost seemingly unobtainable goal for 2011:
1)buy a condo/house/living space of my own. i got a good steady job, about a year away from finishing my graduate studies, i just need to save. which for me is always hard. now's the time to buy i keep hearing.

less impossible goals:
1) get a girlfriend, i feel like i'm finally over The Girl. i'm not using drugs as a means to forget anymore, i'm not using excuses to be alone, etc.
2) finish community service hours, get the fuck off probation
3) record some goddamn songs, at least an EPs worth, that wouldn't get me booed if i ever played them live
4) finish paying off my car
5) no soda except when paired with alcohol? (maybe?)
6) find a really awesome avatar to use

Johnny C:
harry reminded me just now – with his posting! – that i lied, and that i'm also resolving to whip my idiot self into financial shape this year. i've got a band that's going to cost more money than it makes for a long time and i need to start behaving like it.

get more mileage out of this by only mixing using diet & "zero" stuff

jwhouk:
I made a New Year's resolution many years ago to stop making New Year's Resolutions.

Works so far.
