It is pretty easy to do this when you negotiate your way into free drinks, I've found.
Now I spend zero money on drinks, where it used to be like $15 for three beers.

me and my friend befriended and got drunk with the bartender at the university pub during the first week before classes (we bought him like, six shots) and now every time he sees us come in, he happily remembers us and give us huge discounts on our drinks. short term expense for long term savings!
