at the risk of turning this into a TMI thread or sounding deliberately immature and obscene, i really sucked at uh... having fun with myself for a really long time and never actually started doing it on a semi regular basis until i was like, 21. i feel pretty confident this is related to a lot of the other positive changes i have made in my life in recent years as well and in hindsight, having spent so much of my teenage and young adult life being completely afraid of this act now feels really silly and pathetic cos it's dumb to feel bad about orgasms, orgasms are fun and they make you feel really good about yourself! basically i really like this resolution.

i'm not sure why exactly but i think the main causes were that i never had any sort of proper sex talk from my parents at all, in any form, when i was growing up and they were always really weird and immature and embarrassed about sex stuff, and in middle and high school i felt really painfully unattractive and awkward and unliked (like a lot of people i guess). thus for whatever reason i just... never masturbated or had any orgasms at all. the funny thing about sex stuff is that once you feel weird about something, it gets increasingly harder and harder to not feel super weird about it, i guess because it becomes a bit of a comfort zone of sorts, and subsequently it isn't until you finally push your boundaries and just do it that you realize how dumb being embarrassed about something that is really fun and feels good is. my example is a bit of an extreme one, but maybe it's similar to the hangups that other people have as well.
