What about the all girl punk bands? Or anti-violence hardcore, or straight edge. I think being one of the first mixed race bands is not only a huge achievement but worthy of recognition. Obviously it's not the key point but it's a pretty major sidenote.

A sidenote indeed. Americans (I'm Danish) shouldn't be proud they have a black president, they should be proud that they have a great president... And so on. That's just my opinion on the matter. If you expect to be acknowledged because of what you ARE and not what you DO, then we disagree. I wasn't offended, TheClickOfALight. It was mostly a joke, since I think the term is so weird, I can hardly wrap my head around it.
