Hello QC Wink Wink friends. Long time leecher and 1st time poster. It's time for me to start giving back goddamnit so here goes: I introduce you to the Jive Turkeys hailing from Oxford/Cincinnati OH signed with Colemine Records - one of only a handful of record labels worldwide still pressing 45's. If you are into old or new funk doesn't matter cause these fools can throw down. With an old sound like instrumental Dap Kings or Quantic Soul Orchestra without the trix. If you like that style I know you are going to appreciate these guys. This album is straight funk from beginning to end.
The Jive Turkeys - Bread and Butter
--- Quote ---Review from Parisdjs.com:
The Jive Turkeys are made up of four musicians who have been playing together for the better part of the last five years in a hip-hop group called Soundscape. Soundscape is a group based in Oxford, OH, home of Miami University. This is where Matt Amburgy (organ), Terry Cole (bass), Andrew DeRoberts (guitar), and Rob Houk (drums) first met. And while Soundscape has always provided all of them the opportunity to grow and develop as musicians through the group’s unique fusion of genres (hip-hop, funk, jazz, rock), The Jive Turkeys is a group that is much more narrow in its focus. The formation of The Jive Turkeys came about when the four decided they wanted to record some stripped-down, raw funk. So, they borrowed an organ, a Leslie, some old amps, all got together in a tiny little room and started cranking out tracks. The full-length debut from the kings of midwest instrumental funk is called Bread & Butter - an appropriate title considering the album is nothing but funky, soulful instrumental goodness from start to finish.

I guess compared to the days when every record label put out 45s that's accurate but I would imagine that are literally thousands of labels today that put out 45s. I mean, I could definitely pull together a list of 200 labels that only put out cassettes still and that's a way more obscure medium these days than anything vinyl.

Correction: One of the few that press Funk 45's. Just check out the music, sheesh. :-D
