Hello QC Wink Wink friends. Long time leecher and 1st time poster.  It's time for me to start giving back goddamnit so here goes:  I introduce you to the Jive Turkeys hailing from Oxford/Cincinnati OH signed with Colemine Records - one of only a handful of record labels worldwide still pressing 45's.  If you are into old or new funk doesn't matter cause these fools can throw down.  With an old sound like instrumental Dap Kings or Quantic Soul Orchestra without the trix.  If you like that style I know you are going to appreciate these guys.  This album is straight funk from beginning to end.

The Jive Turkeys - Bread and Butter

Quote
Review from Parisdjs.com:

The Jive Turkeys are made up of four musicians who have been playing together for the better part of the last five years in a hip-hop group called Soundscape. Soundscape is a group based in Oxford, OH, home of Miami University. This is where Matt Amburgy (organ), Terry Cole (bass), Andrew DeRoberts (guitar), and Rob Houk (drums) first met. And while Soundscape has always provided all of them the opportunity to grow and develop as musicians through the group’s unique fusion of genres (hip-hop, funk, jazz, rock), The Jive Turkeys is a group that is much more narrow in its focus. The formation of The Jive Turkeys came about when the four decided they wanted to record some stripped-down, raw funk. So, they borrowed an organ, a Leslie, some old amps, all got together in a tiny little room and started cranking out tracks. The full-length debut from the kings of midwest instrumental funk is called Bread & Butter - an appropriate title considering the album is nothing but funky, soulful instrumental goodness from start to finish.

If you like it please show the band some love at:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Jive-Turkeys/85989298413

I guess compared to the days when every record label put out 45s that's accurate but I would imagine that are literally thousands of labels today that put out 45s. I mean, I could definitely pull together a list of 200 labels that only put out cassettes still and that's a way more obscure medium these days than anything vinyl.

Speaking of The Quantic Soul Orchestra....

The Quantic Soul Orchestra - Pushin On

Quote
"The remit is soul for soul's sake; the only rule is to keep it funky."

Simon Coates 2005-05-12

Under his Quantic Soul Orchestra moniker, Will Holland moves away from the sampled beats that he uses as Quantic and into the 'real instrument' arena. His mission is to make the sort of music that the next generation of producers and crate diggers can utilise.

But Holland's Soul Orchestra is about far more than just makingDJ tools. In the same way as the likes of Sharon Jones &the Dap Kings go about replicating the vintage sound of Muscle Shoals, QSO assembles a gang of musicians so tight that you could bounce a quarter off their collective ass.The remit is soul for soul's sake; the only rule is to keep it funky.

The follow-up to QSO's 2003 Stampede album, Pushin' On is adizzying exploration into what can be achieved with a gang of like-minded coves who want nothing more than to chase the perfect groove. And, although it's a largely instrumental set, the occasional gritty vocal input of guest singer Alice Russell adds extra colour to an already kaleidoscopic collection.

The opening track "Introducing..." works as a CV of the band's raw funk dexterity. The cover versions include an unbridled take on Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" and the QSO rethink of "Get A Move On"(one of Mr Scruff's faves).

Studied exercises in pursuing true soul music can sometimes feel leaden and worthy, but Matt Holland's sheer exuberance and passion for the music make sure Pushin' On is much more than a pointless excercise in nostalgia.

Keepin on the funk/soul tip... I have a pre-release for ya.  This album is fantastic old school funk/soul.  The title track is my favorite new groove this year.  Many accolades for this album to follow its release; Guaranteed

SCIENTIST LAUNCHES DUBSTEP INTO OUTER SPACE

The long awaited and much debated Scientist mixes of exclusive dubstep material from the likes of Pinch, Kode 9, Mala and Shackleton finally lands for all Sound System crew. It's undoubtedly Tectonic's most ambitious project to date, some 12 months in the echo chamber spent duppying contemporary material until it heaves and breathes courtesy of masterful mixing board trickery. The man at the controls ranks among the finest Dub engineers ever to grace a desk, and although his prime period was nearly 30 years ago he's still got an innate sensitivity to the subtleties of fluctuating reverb/echo/delay combinations and the transient spaces they're capable of creating. With this in mind the original tracks are rendered as hallucinatory images of their former selves, spatial dimensions warped and surfaces refracted until they feel overgrown and listening to them is like peering into an alien forest, becoming both unpredictable and almost unstable. A project of this kind is pretty much unprecedented in Dubstep and deserves your attention forthwith.

I'm guessing this mysterious post implies you've had some difficulty with it?

or what?

2 discs, 2 rar files, both way under 200mb and still there

plenty of others have dl them, especially the scientist mixes - try again I'd say

or have I got you wrong there?

The two files that he's commenting on are .7z files, presumably created by 7zip.  It's a good system, but not everyone recognises such files or has the software to open them.

Hyetal - Broadcast

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?22wb9amfgzauwzc
Quote from: Pfork
Back in 2009, it seemed that Bristol, England was the next breeding ground of UK bass music, with young hotshots Joker and Gemmy developing the futuristic, highly melodic "purple" sound. Outside of Guido's great Anidea LP from 2010, the Bristol scene's been weirdly quiet since that initial boom. Quiet except for young producer Hyetal (real name David Corney), who made heads turn last summer with his killer "Phoenix" 12". Pushing an atmospheric, quickly fluctuating style, the song seemed to nudge "purple" into a spacier, more ethereal realm.

Even with its lush builds and laserbeam synth breakdowns, "Phoenix" still had a thumping bass undercurrent, and anyone expecting that kind of club appeal may be surprised with the direction Hyetal's taken on Broadcast, his debut LP. Rather than pack the album with similarly bouncy floor-fillers, Corney's instead built a more sprawled-out, home-listening experience that takes its cues from film scores (John Carpenter and Tron feel like big reference points) and 80s synth music. But unlike the work of, say, Ford & Lopatin, this doesn't feel like a nostalgia trip-- for one, the production is clean and expensive-sounding, and the vibe is more future-vision than flashback.

There isn't a lot of thrust or outright melody (if it's big hooks you're after, you might want to look elsewhere), but Corney does excel at creating color and environment. With the chugging "Beach Scene"-- all clattering percussion and sparkly synth interplay-- it's easy to imagine the movie sequence this could be soundtracking. And even though bass and dubstep elements take a backseat on the record, Corney does occasionally incorporate them: "Searchlight" balances the album's headier aspirations with straight-up groove, weaving in a vocal house sample and propulsive, muted bass.

There are a few tracks here, "The Chase" and "Transmission" among them, that don't work as well; then Corney's vibe-building starts feeling too much like background listening. Perhaps because he's tried to make Broadcast an album, with thoughtful pacing and sequencing, he sometimes loses focus on what sounds best. (You see this a lot when dance-music producers get their first crack at a full-length-- e.g., Darkstar's 2010 debut.) The record also occasionally sounds too polished-- the production is generally very good, but without even a trace of grit or noise it can feel a bit neutered at times. Outside of that, Hyetal's first is a mature and accomplished album.

Absolutely loving this atm!

Lnkwood Family / Fudge Fingas / Linkwood - Miles Away

Quote
A much needed reissue of this ace little 10" from Glasgow's Firecracker crew originally released back in '04. Linkwood family head up the A-side with a wicked Moodymann styled slack soul heads cut for the floor with 'Miles Away', a superbly velveteen homage to detroit beatdown styles with deliciously burnished horns and lights-down-low soul vox from Compost rec's Joseph Malik, butter stuff. Family friend Fudge Fingas contributes the irresistible vibes of 'Gettin' together' on the flip, a slow burning floor trak strictly for the heads with some perfectly studied classic soul edits woven into a loving homage to the Motor city more soulful side. Linkwood does the solo thing on final track 'fate' with a heady swirl of piquant keys and patchworked rhythms lending a fresh and psychedelic twist to the proceedings, brilliant stuff.

Lnkwood / Fudge Fingas / The Coplainers - What's Up With The Underground?

Quote
Succumbing to massive demand, Firecracker records have repressed their legendary second EP, a part of the highly sought after 10" trilogy. Between the three artists involved here, Linkwood, Fudge Fingas and Bacon Rolls, are enough ideas, samples and restless dancefloor energy to fuel a small city if only someone could work out a way to harness such a thing. If you've heard the other two 10"s in the series you'll know what to expect, if not, it's probably the most potent brew of funk, soul, disco, house and even electro this side of Moodymann and has rightfully found a spot in the box of everyone from Gilles Peterson to Derrick May since it's initial release in 2005. Well fun*ed.

Linkwood & House of Traps / Fudge Fingas - EP4

Quote
Disco, house and soul nuts may be experiencing chaffage right now after rubbing they hands in anticipation of this nugget. Firecracker EP4 is a hot toddy to the ears, featuring he usual outstanding attention to detail on the sleeve artwork and vinyl pressing, and astounding production levels on the record itself from Linkwood, Fudge Fingas and House Of Traps. 'Barely Eagle' on the A-side is the massive slow-disco winner that's been getting repeat rotation from the likes of Trevor Jackson, Trus'me and The Unabombers, practically coming with a satisfaction guaranteed insert, but our favourite has to be Linkwood's edit of 'Who La La?' on the flipside, chopping and splicing a boogie bomb with stupendous synthline dynamics. Cop a copy and you'll soon know what I mean. This leaves Fudge Fingas to round off an already essential record with the Ra-indebted cosmic soul of 'Situation Diminished', just in case you needed any more reasons. Very limited. Very big tip!

Vakula - Firecracker EP 5

Quote
Heading up the latest Firecracker treat is DJ/Producer Vakula. His tracks have already graced esteemed imprints such as Uzuri and Meakusma but we reckon this is easily his very finest material to date. There's a real sense of psyched narrative structure despite the EP's brief length; perhaps it's due to the inclusion of his super low-slung intro and skit track, or his deft touch for Theo P-style mixing trickery, but whatever it is, it's got us hooked by the cheek. All the DJs must check for the cruising Detroit beatdown of 'Black & White', or those predisposed to properly laidback vibes will fall mad-deep into the rich atmospheres of 'You Can Do' and the smoky jazz tangibility of 'Different Tone'. Fans of Fudge Fingas, Linkwood, KDJ, Theo P, Trus'me... this is for you.

Darq E Freaker - Cherryade EP

Quote
Third drop from Oil Gang, featuring the massive 'Cherryade' from 'Next Hype' producer, Darq E Freaker. Basically, it's all about the A-side, romping hard for the DJs and MCs with his signature punching stabs recycled over burly, swaggering drums and serrated bass slashes. The flipside tracks are a bit gash, but we're not complaining when you've got that A-side. TIP!

Various - Quadrant EP

Quote
A BIG look from Oil Gang, dropping four ballistic Grime instrumentals from Spooky, Darq E Freaker, Mistayif and Splurt. We just can't get over Splurt's devastating 'The Return VIP (Mega Remix)', and it would appear that Starkey and Mosca have the same feelings, with Starkey wheeling it twice on a recent radio show! Also up there is Darq E Freaker's classic cut-up 'Rhythm & Slags', a sidewinding romp from Sppoky on 'Over Capacity' and the string-loaded 'Fortress Riddim' from Mistayif. Fiyah!

Spooky - Murderer EP

Quote
Burly grime four-tracker from Oil Gang's Spooky. Grime fiends will certainly know the Barrington Levy-sampling 'Murderer' from the essential Butterz Fact mix by Elijah & Skilliam, but the madness doesn't stop there, as the crushing 'Devil Within' unloads mammoth riffage harnessed by a concrete half-step riddim recently used by D Double E as the instrumental for his 'Bassline Murder' cut. On the flip matters get serious with the broken 4/4 lunge of his Iron Gates remix of Werewolf and finally the febrile attack of his Maniac-styled 'Peach Rings'. Aces.

Linkwood Family / Intrusion - Miles Away (Intrusion Dubs)

Quote
If there was any one remix project we'd imagine you lot to have a coronary over, it'd be this. Steve Hitchell aka Intrusion aka 0.5 of Deepchord takes on Linkwoods biggest track 'Miles Away' with two utterly sublime and heartwarming renditions set to soundtrack fuzzy summer moments across the world in the coming months. 'Sunset Dub' and 'Sunrise Dub' take the source material from Linkwood and reduce it till the funk juice evaporates and you're left with a richly aromatic residue of slow heaving analog subbass and gaseous chord sequences to elevate the soul. Each element of the original from the arcing sax lines to the disembodied vocals are treated with such care and due diligence, given acres of space to unfurl and make their presence felt before sinking back into padded atmospheres like some dreamy apparition. The man has truly concocted something very special here and if you were touched by his Seduction Of Silence set this will probably be some sort of religious experience. Just a friendly warning; there are only 1000 copies of this for the world, with screen printed sleeves and hand stamped centre labels pressed onto lush heavyweight vinyl, meaning they ain't gonna last...

Brief Review:
Is This Hyperreal?, Atari Teenage Riot’s first album released through LA future stomp label Dim Mak, is an acetylene laced documentation of ATR’s re-ignition after an eleven year silence. Produced, mixed, recorded with Alec Empire, Nic Endo and new ATR member CX Kidtronik (Saul Williams / Nine Inch Nails), ATR’s fourth studio release was made at the Hellish Vortex studio in Berlin.

A cultural cold war divided upon class lines, a new age of surveillance, heroes’ incarcerated in the worst conditions possible for speaking out against the military complex, a corrupt press core owned by multi-national corporations and raised to repeat sound bytes. This is the post-cyberpunk world on the brink of collapse Atari Teenage Riot’s Is This Hyperreal? is born into. Every track is an iridescent explosion of nervous energy requesting your attendance in Atari Teenage Riot’scampaign party of education and awareness. Having influenced a generation of M.I.A., Crystal Castles, Le Tigre, Sleigh Bells, and Pendulum, Atari Teenage Riot is a welcome shot in the arm of the music industry.

I've been enjoying the new Antlers album a lot.  It is pretty gorgeous and sad.  but unlike their last album, as I put it to my girlfriend, "it does not make you feel like all of your family members and friends were murdered and you were forced to watch a bunch of puppies drowning by the time you finished it.  Does that make it better, or worse?  You decide..."
heh

Thanks for the Jesu upload, I'm really enjoying it a lot so far.

Hey everyone. lLongtime lurker, Some killer free music from Ireland. Saw these guys last week.

They have everything available totally free on Bandcamp.

Overhead, The Albatross - Lads With Sticks

http://www.overheadthealbatross.bandcamp.com/

Post rock from Dublin. Some pretty nice stuff. Simple but effective, very pretty sounds. Killer drummer. Awesome awesome awesome live. Really nice sounding EP. I recommend 'Liam Neeson'.

The Hanged Man & The Groovy Gloom

http://thehangedman.bandcamp.com/

These dudes opened the show. Kinda hard to nail down what they do. Some songs are kinda alt rock, some more jazz. All of them get epic. Crazy piano player, and singer/guitarist/violinist. Seem to be doing a Flaming Lips thing, releasing a single every month. 'Polar' and 'Tempest'are my favourites.

Thanks for the Jesse Sykes album!

Rules:

The first rule of this thread is you do not mention MF.  I am doing this because we are currently the first hit for the full version of "MF thread" on Google, so y'know, that's bad n' shit.

No hot-linking images or albums. You can re-host images at http://imageshack.us.

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to MF, in multiple parts if the album is over 200mb. The reason for this is that we know MF is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums. This includes requests for re-uploads; if you miss it, try looking for it somewhere else.

Repost the rules at the top of each new page
.

LOVE for MO.

SINGING ADAMS - EVERYBODY FRIENDS NOW (2011)

Code: [Select]
http://www.m/f.com/?72zckezkwepjzdk
former frontman of The Broken Family Band's new lot - greatness
supported Okkervill River the other week if that helps
it's been plagued by bad reviews - as in badly written, rather than uncomplementary, this is OK-ish

Quote
Musically, the record takes off where The Broken Family Band left off, adding a slightly poppier edge to the standard melodic indie template – there’s brass! And backing vocals! The band he’s put together features former members of bands that often used to tour with The Broken Family Band – Absentee, Saloon – so you soon realise you’re not in Them Crooked Vultures territory. It’s exactly as you might expect things to be.

Once you’ve realised this, you can get on with enjoying Adams’ way with words. The finest example here would probably be ‘Old Days’, in which the bitter singer reflects on his past glories and looks forward to his encroaching middle-age. “I used to be someone/I had a band”, he laments, “And now I’ve seen my flame splutter out/I’ve got no guts/You should’ve seen me in the old days”. It might not seem funny written down, but there’s a wryness to Adams’ voice that balances the tragic with the ticklish.

This clever balancing act continues throughout – the following track ‘Injured Party’ berates its subject with the chorus “I don’t need this/I’ve been to a funeral/I don’t need this/I’m getting married in the morning/I don’t need this/I’m heading to the hospital”. Imagine a bouncier Bill Callaghan and you’re on the right track. ‘Giving It All Away’ asks women to stop throwing themselves at the singer – an unassuming man from Cambridgeshire, not one of the Followhill brothers – if that doesn’t give you an idea of the territory we’re in, then nothing will.

Austra - Feel it break (2011)

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?00mmmtaiqqqo1sy
Quote from: The Guardian
Canadian trio Austra have been lumped in with the synth-gothisms of Zola Jesus and Fever Ray, but there's a cleanliness and sharpness about them that belies those associations. Katie Stelmanis sings with a cut-glass voice, and the precision of the electronic music behind her – always carefully restrained, never overwhelming – might be chilly, but it's rarely foreboding. Lose It's hook combines a wordless chirrupp with a trebly synth line that sounds like tumbling icicles, but it is recognisably pop. The single Beat and the Pulse might be the reason for the goth comparisons: it's the darkest moment on the album, and came with a video YouTube saw fit to ban in its original form. Nevertheless, one wouldn't call Feel It Break straightforward: Stelmanis is mannered enough to keep listeners on their toes, without tipping over into being irritating, adding a dash of spice to a record capable of intriguing both art and pop crowds.
